Chestertown, MD, for Monochrome Monday

in Photography Lovers3 years ago

Last Saturday I had some auction winnings to pick up from an auction house in Chestertown, MD. Chestertown is an old city by US standards - over 300 years old now - and is so named for the river that it sits on - the Chester River.

It was an absolutely beautiful day and Chestertown is an absolutely beautiful city. I had no obligations and no need to be in a huge hurry, so I spent some time walking down the main street of the city (High Street) down to the harbour and about. It was glorious. I had with me two cameras - my Sony a58 and a 35mm film Exakta VX (the film of which has already been sent in for developing).

I arrived just in time to see the end of the weekly farmers market. Alas. It would have been nice to visit, but I did get to enjoy some busking buskers.

These pictures were originally going to be uploaded on Saturday for #sepiasaturday but, as it turns out, 24 hours in a day is about 1,957 (give or take) fewer than what I need, so we'll need to make do with #monochromemonday.

Being an old city, and one with plenty of cobblestone, bricks, and a port, there are more photography opportunities than a person can easily throw a camera at in any one day. I seriously could have spent the entire day here and then come back for more and not come across anything new. The one hour drive was even quite enjoyable.

Of course, one of the big draws for the city is the river front. It's absolutely gorgeous, and on a beautiful day like it was on Saturday there were plenty of sailboats out and about.

What really drew my attention at the riverfront, however, was the Sultana. The Sultana is a replica of the smallest schooner ever commissioned for the British Royal Navy. I do wish I could have seen this girl out in the river!

There is a Memorial Day event where the revolutionary Tea Party is re-created aboard the Sultana. I think I'm going to try to make my way back in that direction for it; that could be a whole lot of fun.

Now, of course, for @dswigle, some flowers.

And for me, a fire hydrant.

Wow! This was such a great getaway day, wasn't it? You have a great way of unfolding a story and the busking buskers were strumming my tune. The long look down the fenceline is a real favorite scene for me, I love anything that give me the long leading lines.

I'm in love with all things on the waterfront, and I'm impressed that the entire post was presented very well the mono world, including my flowers. Supremely lovely, even squeezing a moment in for the fire hydrant.

Looking forward to the Sultana adventure!

The city is just chock full of photo opportunities. I'm hoping my film gets developed soon so I can see how that turned out!

It looks absolutely amazing just find what you have shown so I look forward to the others!

It is a beautiful city with many different photography angles. I also like the pier for photography. Beautiful shots
