Last weekend, I visited the Aceh Museum. This museum was established 100 years ago during the Dutch East Indies government and was inaugurated in 1915.
The museum stores various kinds of relics of the Acehnese people such as tools, traditional weapons, traditional clothing, old money, and preserved animals in the land of Aceh.
This is called 'Rumoh Aceh', which is a traditional Acehnese house on stilts. Inside there are rooms that have been divided according to their respective functions. There is a living room, bedroom, and also a kitchen.
The oldest collection here is a 1400-year-old bell called the 'Lonceng Cakra Donya'. This bell was a gift from the Emperor of China in the Ming Dynasty given through Admiral Cheng Ho during his visit as a sign of friendship.
In other buildings we can find collections of fine art, archeology, biology, historics, ethnography and many more. The first section contains relics of ancient times, such as musical instruments, books, jewelry, traditional clothes, and there are also spices found in Aceh.
These are traditional clothes from various regions in Aceh.
In the biologics section, we can see a variety of preserved animals. And the icon in this section is the preserved two-headed buffalo calf. The calf was born in 1953 and died after 2 months of survival.
The last section is the history section. It consists of the history of warfare in Aceh, leaders of the warring armies of the enemy, and heroes both male and female in Aceh.
