Definitely agree with you on the grinding enjoyment of it! I first joined RS expecting to be selling everything I earned to stock up a few extra $ monthly hahahaha, never expected to be this involved in the game let alone investing for stuff like the millionaire card, I took the jump around Christmas time when it set me back about $250 for the Starbits, the thing that really sold it for me was the fact I don't lose the Starbits to obtain the card but they just sit in my wallet so worst comes to worst I could always re-coup at least somewhat of my investment 😅
You definitely kill it on the grinding aspect, always notice your daily Starbits in your posts and your rank improvements so whether you save up or invest up for it, you'll definitely obtain it one day then continue the grind as normal!
