Friends as I was already anticipating in the introduction of the post we start first with the song I was telling you. You will see that this song I want to talk about, unlike the ones I have talked about in the last week, is in Spanish. Specifically it belongs to a very famous Latin American group. Nothing, I was just doing it to add humor to this. I'm getting to the point I'm referring to the song “Como Perros y Gatos” by the Argentine group Pimpinela. Those of you who are from Argentina here surely know them more than enough, because they are one of the most famous bands of the classic decade or as we say here the prodigious decade of Argentina.
In my country, they are also very well known, even though it is a bit far from Argentina. But as it is Spanish speaking their songs triumphed. Even today many years after this song was released it is very common to hear it on the radio or in any media, just to mention one example, in public transportation. I think almost everyone likes them, the group Pimpinela, because of their characteristic style of singing. At least I personally like all their songs. Especially because their songs are somewhat dramatic and funny. Almost all their lyrics are designed to be sung as if it were a conversation between the members of the group. The truth is something very original and that I have not seen in other Spanish music groups.
In the case of today's song, although several more of the group I met them thanks to my older brother. He has always liked the group's music and usually listens to them at home. At least since I was little he liked them. I think I already told you in a previous post about another song that I met in the same way at the house when I went to see my nephews. Focusing on “Como perros y gatos” I want to tell you about its meaning. You see If you listen to this song without paying too much attention, you might think it's just about a couple arguing nonstop. That's why I was telling you that it's kind of funny, their style of singing. And in essence it is just that, a portrait of a relationship where conflicts are the bread and butter. But what's interesting is how they express it. It's not just the typical story of love and fights, but they dramatize it to the maximum, almost as if it were a scene out of a novel. But they do it trying to give several messages. I am going to tell you at least the main ones, but there are many more. For example, in the lyrics, they show how the constant arguments are not a sign of hate, but of passion we could say. According to them it is as if this conflict is part of their dynamic, they don't know how to live any other way. I think hearing that may sound chaotic, but in the end it's clear that, despite everything, they love and need each other.
It is a constant tug-of-war, but not from hatred. In parts of the song both singers regret their actions and say what they have lost by arguing. So the central message of the song itself is that arguing all the time and creating hatred will only make us feel alone in many ways and that we will not gain anything. That is to say that it is better to understand each other than to get to the points that the song explains in the lyrics. Although I know, many will say that it is easier said than done, and the truth is that sometimes it is difficult to understand each other, even outside the context of the relationships that the song says.
Now, I personally believe that this song has a teaching that goes beyond relationships. I think it also shows us how to handle differences and conflicts in general, something that applies to many aspects of life. I am going to give you a few examples to make this clear, although I think you may already know them. The first and most common is in the family. I say that we will not always agree on everything with those we love, but of course that does not mean that we should move away or break those ties. Sometimes, affection is in accepting imperfections and finding a way to coexist. I am sure you agree with me on that. We can even apply this teaching to ourselves. I think we all know that we have times when our desires or decisions seem to conflict. And that's okay. We are not perfect, but we can learn to deal with our contradictions and move forward. I think that's real life.
That's why I think it's great that the song touches on these issues and makes as I always say awareness on the subject. Sometimes from a lyric that seems simple in a song there is a good message for one. That's why I always analyze the lyrics of the songs I listen to.
