Well friends, today I am back to share with you my usual letter recommendation. Yesterday I shared with you a story, which by the way if you haven't read it I invite you to read it, after you read this one of course 😂. So yesterday was story day and today was my letter recommendation section. In addition, as you can imagine, because you saw it in the title 😅, I also bring you a musical news that at the same time makes a recommendation that is about a song, worth the redundancy, which is very beautiful and above all has an important message that everyone should take into account in their lives. So, as usual around here, we start first with the music news. In this case it is an interesting song for one aspect. You will see in almost all my posts I talk about a song that is by an artist, but in this case it is a collaboration of 2 great singers. One of them we know from a TV show that I don't even need to mention due to her popularity. However, if you don't know it, let me know in the comments and I will answer you for sure. This way we can debate in the comments.
The second singer of this song, despite having been in the industry for several years, is better known for her songs of recent years. As I would say she is a hidden pearl to many. I know many of you at this point must be desperate to know what song and artists I am talking about. And don't worry I'm telling you, it's about the song Prisoner which was made in collaboration between singers Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa. Now it all makes sense, doesn't it 😅. Well the news in itself is that this song just a few days ago turned 4 years since it was released. If we are specific it was last week but due to time issues this post could not be published before. But as they say it's better late than never right.
In my personal case I know this song since the first days it was released, because I already knew Cyrus and well back then I was following her career. We all know her most famous song of her riding the wrecking ball. Well in the case of Dua Lipa back then I didn't know her that well but it was a good starting point to start listening to some of her songs. In fact today many of my favorite songs are hers. I really like her style. I think this collaboration was very good for both of them because each one brought their own good things and they did a good job on this song. For example, I liked the more modern pop that Dua put on it and Miley I think one of the things to highlight is the style that reminds me a little bit of that 80's music. Not if you know what I mean.
This song in terms of meaning is not as simple to explain as others I have talked about here. I say this because on the one hand we have the literal meaning of the lyrics and on the other hand we have the double meanings that we can get from the message. As you can see it is not an easy task 😅. But well, at least I will try to give you my interpretation. Although as I have repeated many times you are free to draw other messages, in fact the song lends itself very well for that. Let's first focus on the lyrics, in my opinion it talks about being trapped in an emotionally draining situation. While you can clearly tell it's directed at a complicated relationship, I think the message has many layers to it. It's not just about someone who can't get over a love, I think it's more about feeling figuratively like being chained to something that is no longer useful, but that we still don't know how to let go of. Although of course this applies when one of the 2 spouses gets out of the way. I don't think I need to translate that but you know what I mean.
I like to take the romantic context out of the song, because then the message becomes even more interesting. I am going to give you examples and this would be the second example. Which would be the figurative sense. You can imagine those moments in life when we feel trapped by our own decisions, i.e. routines or fears. I think the song could be applied to that, because it is the same thing to be tied to a job that you hate but that gives you security, or who can not leave a bad habit because it is comfortable even if it hurts you. And so we could go on giving examples. I am going to summarize them with a sentence, They are things or situations that we do not like, but for X reason we are prisoners of them. And here if it is literal or figurative sense. That depends on each one of us.
In my opinion, I believe that the lesson we can take from “Prisoner” is that what we call freedom is not always something external, because as the song says, it is something internal. And here I am not referring to those motivational phrases of “believe in yourself and everything will be possible” (which sound nice but many times do not tell us how to do it). You know what I mean. I am talking about having the “courage” to face our own limitations, whether it is a fear, a routine or a fixed idea of how our life should be. Although of course from my own experience I know it's easier said than done 😅. I think it's good that the song raises awareness about that.
