Strawberry Mint Lemonade for Healthy Happy Kids πŸ“πŸ‹πŸŒ±

in Healthy Happy Kids β€’ last year

Hey you guys ❀️

All summer long, we drink lemonade at home. Actually, its our favorite drink in season and we order it pretty much to any restaurant we're going.

I had so many lemonades over the years, I almost consider myself an expert 🀣
I had all kind of lemonades: bad ones, fair ones, delicious ones, fruity or herbs one, flavorful ones or simply garbage. πŸ˜πŸ˜†

We dont buy soda to have it at home, almost never ever. I dont like the idea of having huge quantities of sugar, coming from these garbage drinks. I dont like the taste really and why introducing calories, sugar and cancer to my body with a drink I dont really enjoy?

I'm not saying I dont enjoy a Coke from time to time, but definitely not ar home.
Instead, we make lemonades, teas and sometimes, we make homemade fruit syrup. This last one, contains sugar but it also provides the vitamins, antioxidants and other healthy compounds coming from fruits and herbs.
(For example, my dad makes this delicious to die for Mint Syrup). πŸ’š

A few days ago I made this Mint and Strawberry Lemonade. πŸŒ±πŸ‹πŸ“

We had to leave home and drive to Brasov the next day, (we're in vacation at the momemt) and our fridge was full of lemons and limes.
In the garden we have Mint and Strawberries, so why not make a lemonade?

To make it sweet, I usually add honey or stevia extract.
This time I used both.

I think its so rewarding to grow your own foods and then enjoy a meal or for example, this lemonade.
I love it more when I use herbs, fruits or veggies from the garden.
Gardening is such a blessing!

I'm attaching these photos below, taken right before to add them into the lemonade. πŸ“πŸ“πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸŒ±πŸŒ±

INGREDIENTS:

First you need to know what do you prefer: plain water or sparkling water.
I dont have a favorite or hmmm...maybe I do.
I realized that lately, I made my lemonade with sparkling water but this is relatively new. So maybe I prefer it with sparkling water. Or at least, not, in summer.
Its a bit more refreshing and satious. Not to say it tastes better.

So here are the ingredients for about 2-2.5l Lemonade:

  • sparkling water 2l
  • lemon juice (3-4 lemons)
  • lime juice (2 limes)
  • lemon slices (one lemon)
  • strawberries (a big handful of them)
  • fresh mint leaves (as many as you want)
  • honey or stevia extract (again, this is up to you and your taste)
  • optional juice from 1-2 oranges

You dont need other instructions other than to squeeze the lemons/limes and then mix with other ingredients.

You can cut the strawberries in half so they can leave their juices and this gives flavor to the lemonade.

Also, you can add lime slices, but this is optional. I do it for the flavor mostly and for the fact it looks good.

Thats why I buy organic lemons.

And not to mention that my kid is also in love with Lemonade.

What kids doesnt love Healthy Sweet and Sour Lemonade?? πŸ‹

He knows fruit juices and drinks we make at home are the ones right for our body.
If there is one thing I tried to be consistent with, when it comes to what knowledge I want my kid to have and they dont learn it in school, then this is it: Health and Nutrition.

I try to teach him how to keep his body healthy and believe me, we're not that type of parents to be exagerated with this topic. He does know what a chocolate is or a waffle. Is just that both me and my husband are careful enough with Caleb's nutrition and we're constantly trying to make him aware of his food choices and food habits.

You cant compare a soda with a lemonade you did at home.
As for me, I prefer not to give him soda. I can count on my fingers how many times in his 4.5 yrs life he had this so unhealthy commercial drink.
He'll have plenty of time to drink it, if he choses to. But for now, this product is something I dont encourage him to have and I'm not sorry about it.

This is my recipe for a Mint & Strawberry Lemonade I do every summer, at least once/week.
This summer I made more then ever, pretty much using what I had at hand: berries, peaches, lemons, limes, grapefruit, oranges, mint, lavander, rosemary. I even used basil. πŸ’š

The combinations are endless. Create your perfect lemonade as your heart desires! ❀️

Have a wonderful week, everyone!

I hope you'll enjoy this recipe with your kid and with entire family!πŸ“πŸ‹

P.S. πŸ˜‹ Here's a photo of me I took today, two hrs ago, in Brasov, Transylvania. Promise to be back sharing some of our moments and places we visited these days. 😍

This is one of the reasons we decided to grow spearmint leaves in our garden this summer. Unfortunately they didn’t grow this round but we’ll be trying again.

We are the same way when it comes to sugary and unhealthy drinks for our kids. We’ve let them have a lot more than what we used to but I want to get back to making our own drinks, shakes etc.

This lemonade looks so refreshing and your strawberries are so vibrant. Thanks for sharing this as it’s a motivation to keeping our goals. Yum ~ πŸ˜‹

I hope you'll eventually get a very luxuriant spearmint bush.
Here, we cant get rid of ours πŸ˜†. It spreaded way to much 😁😊.

I try my best when it comes to health and healthy eating with Caleb, though are times we make exceptions ofc. After all, we live in a world where everything is available, I meant to sweets.
We cant grow kids in a crystal bowl. They must observe, learn and decide to make healthy choices. In order to be responsable, they need to know their options.

Sending you lots of hugs from Romania πŸ₯°πŸ₯°Glad you enjoyed my post and lemonade @crosheille!

Awww thank you! I hope we do too. Oh wow, that's a good problem to have πŸ˜„.

I totally agree. Sweets are everywhere and so easy to get ahold of. We can just do our best to teach them so that they will be equipped to make the best choices for themselves as they grow older.

Hugs back at ya ~ πŸ€—πŸ˜˜

I envy you for having strawberries in your garden.. I truly want to plant on our farm but it would be difficult because of our season... Does it grow in a tropical place? Haha

!LADY

I dont know exactly, but I know you could try at least. Its easy to have a pot with strawberry plants, like this for example.

Looks really delicious, I think its great to be able to make something from scratch and certainly hope the kids appreciate it more than just pre-packaged sugar snacks!

It was delicious 100%.
The kids appreciate it as long as we teach them how to eat heathy.

A homemade drinks? I'm in! Although I also drink sodas from time to time but if I have a choice, I will just make my own drinks like this. How I wish we also have our own Strawberry in our own garden, that'll be awesome for sure.

Well, I learned that we must use anf enjoy what we have at hand.
I'm sure you have other delicious fruit choices where you live, maybe you can search for some limonade with those fruits you have available.

Thank u also for commenting. Cheers froM romania πŸ₯°

That looks soooo tasty! I am more of a smoothies fan but I bet your lemonade tastes amazing <3

Thank youuuu! πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°
I was a smoothie fan myself years ago. 😁.
Do you order a smoothie when you're going out or you mean in general that u prefer smoothies over lemonades?
We still make our smoothies at home from time to time.

Rather prepare them at home instead of buying. I drink one daily 😁

Yup, same here. I do them at home and very very rarely I would buy one 😁

Wow, it just looks so delicious, now I'm thirsty for a nice fruity lemonade too! :) At home I actually never drink sugary drinks, unless at a birthday party or something similar. Otherwise it's just not good for the body. And what could be better than a healthy, homemade drink that also tastes great?!:)
Greetings <3

Thank youuu πŸ₯°.
A healthy and tasty drink is always a good way to refresh and enjoy a summer day.
Thats the same how we do it. Unless its an occasion, we dont buy sugary drinks. And I'm Happy we can do it like this because nowadays thede higly sugary drinks are soo commercial, everyone thinks its cool to drink this shit every day. Its just sad. They're not healthy. In fact they are the most unhealthy products to ingest, because the sugar content is huge.

Anyways,
Lets hope for the best for everyone. If there's no health, things doesnt sound good.

Hugs πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

Yes, that's true, unfortunately, there's so much advertising for cola and co, I think there's so much money behind it. But unfortunately it is done at the expense of the population. But with such delicious drinks you can do something about it :)
Greetings und many hugs!<3

Totally agree!
Many hugs for u too. ❀️❀️

Your child is really lucky with a mom who spoils him with healthy food, drinks and habits!
I should try to make this kinda drinks my kinda habit. Would be such a good start of the day!

I use to make a 2-2.5 liter lemonade at once, put it in the fridge and then drink it along the day. 😁
It surely refesh your day! πŸ₯°

Beautiful photos. Congratulations. Greetings.

Thank you.
Greetings for u too.
