Yup, I went to family gatherings for Christmas and A lot of got Covid. What did I learn from that? One for me getting shot and a booster seems to have been a good choice. Yes, I still got it but I only got the booster on the 23rd. It should be done 2 weeks before to get better protection. Yet for someone with some extra weight and who had asthma as a kid this as being a mild cold. Yet no issues breathing. Only cough a few times a day. Yup the wife got it and so far it seems like my 4 year does but hasn't slowed her down at all. My brother and sister got it and both were mild as well. They both had shots also.
My takeaway was to keep the party smaller. My sister was hosting and she co-hosted with another family and it was just too many people in one area. Also when it is time to get food maybe people shouldn't have served us. Then again if all we got was a cold hmm never mind we had a great night. I saw family I hadn't seen in years. I would have done it again with maybe a mask on my face is about all. Still, as we ring in 2022 in the next few hours it is a bummer to see the world in a place of so much fear from this. Yet maybe we are just lucky? I can't know for sure. I mean the people I know who got covid got better. Expect a few great aunts in this 90s that I hadn't seen in a long time. Yes that was sad to a point and I don't hope for anyone to die but at 39 I have buried both my parents years ago, too early deaths. Maybe that makes you a bit more numb to it. Or just drills into your mind death is a part of life. I get really confused as someone brought up around the church why so many people seem so afraid to die. Maybe I was just one of those last group of people that was thought it better to live risking it all and dying than hide. That doesn't mean you just go crazy either like some think. I still got the shot because it made sense to me. I still might get it for my kids but haven't yet as they are 4 and 6 and want more data on the 5 to 9 age group that just started to get it. Also now seeing it do nothing to them makes me wonder why they need it? Anyways just post to talk some of out what is on my mind.
I will be back to my normal video soon and trying to do more around here. I just need to rest up a few more days. I am glad about that.
Glad you got such a mild dose, hope everyone gets better really quickly.
I guess it comes to a cost/benefit analysis for everyone... is going to a party or two worth leaving your children without a parent? A friend at work said his entire extended family in Alabama got Covid. His brother and sister-in-law still aren't better a year later (super exhausted all the time) and his cousin died at 45 years old leaving 3 kids and her husband behind... and none of them still haven't gotten any shots.
Personally though, I don't think it's about hiding... just being sensible with shots, masks, washing hands and deciding what events are worth it, etc. I do think that, unfortunately, pretty much everyone in the US will get it at some point.
Glad you made it through ok!
get well soon steve!
Take care and get well soon!
