Very interesting. I recently read that tobacco was actually used for its therapeutic properties as well, before the big corporations got their hands on it, incorporating nicotine and all the harmful substances now found in industrial tobaccos. It went from being a beneficial plant to a killer plant. I heard about a book called: "The Health Benefits of Tobacco: A Smoker's Paradox by Dr. William Douglass". I have not read it yet but i've have seen it recommended for further study on the topic.

Many substances have been hidden from the wide diffusion because interests were aimed to materials that could be punt under a monopoly.
