Pink Apricot hybrid Grow

It's Week 5 of the Pink Apricot cannabis grow. I have one growing in a hydroponic system, this one is growing in soil. The seeds were not feminized - so I'm cloning and training this one, then sending it off to bloom - to see if it's male or female.

The growth feels exponential - with the yellow 5 gallon rim as a reference, you can see how much larger the plant has grown.

Pink Apricot Cloning

I'm snipping a lower branch to clone into a new plant, so I can continue growing this plant if the bloom finds its mother to be female. There's an arrow pointing to the branch in the picture below and to the right.

Root powder will stimulate root growth on the stem of the plant. If a cutting is soaked in water long enough it will eventually start growing roots, but with the powder it's much quicker and more certain.

Excess leaves are removed from the cutting, this part of the stem will be almost underground.

The cutting is placed in the water, a hole is poked in the freshly watered soil.

The wetted cutting is dipped in the root powder then inserted into the dirt hole.

The dirt is pressed in from all sides for a tight cutting fit. The clone is placed in the shade of the 5 gallon buckets. A translucent cover is placed on top of the container to keep the moisture in - it has to be a humid environment until the cutting has grown roots, if it is too dry then the leaves will lose moisture. After a week or two it will have roots and will be ready for more light, cautiously with the cover.

Tie Down Training

LED grow light doesn't penetrate nearly as much as the sun, so I'm training this plant to have more surface area - to grow more dense buds.

You can see the hole that was left after removing the branch, I'm going to pull the top of the plant down towards the ground in that direction.

I drilled a hole in the rim of the bucket - with a backpack bungee cord threaded through it, I looped around the plant and gently pulled it down.

This opened up the lower hidden branches to the light.

In the photo below you can see I removed that big fan leaf above that was blocking their light.

The goal is for each branch to grow up as magnificently as the top, a mini sea of green from one plant. The picture below is after two hours, you can see the top of the plant already up turning towards the light.

The Next Day After Training

The next day I realized that the top had continued to up turn in the darkness, the plant adjusted quickly with minimal shock to it's system.

I've tightened the plant pull down a couple of times, keeping the plant as flat as possible, opening it up to more light.

The trained plant is filling in nicely, the branches are all raising ip - in a few days I'll move it to the bloom tent. I'll post about the hydroponic Pink Apricot grow and Orange Barb soon.

Have a great day!

WOW what a cool thing with the bungee cord, it's so comfortable, nice move man, very ingenious!

Your girls are wonderful, they've started really well, they have a big trunk for their small height. I hope the clone take root well, great start! !WEED

Thanks, I was looking around the house for some kind of cordage, the adjustable bungee did the job perfectly :D

It's really a great idea, I'll use it too man ;).

Awesome explanation on the cloning part. I am hoping to begin learning how to do that this year. I need to get some humidity domes and all the other supplies.

Thanks, the seedling trays with the domes work good too, any transparent cover to keep the moisture in. I used to clone lots of mint varieties with the root gel or powder, 100% success rate, slow and steady :)

Beautiful demonstration, much to learn for us and new growers out here.

Thanks - growing weed has been underground for so long that there's a huge variety of growing techniques to learn from :)

Yea, you're right bro

Looking killer dude!

Thanks man, I sure hope this one's female :D

The plant looks very good and very green. I hope it is a girl.

Thanks, this plant sure is happy, a vigorous grower, fingers crossed :D

Awesome i did not know about this technique

Its especially useful indoors to get the lights closer, but it could be useful outdoors to keep the plants lower than a fence too :)
