I love listening to songs because their great therapeutic effect and immense benefits. Songs are powerful and they help to stabilize the mind when it is in chaos but looking at things now especially in my country, the types of songs been released now are a far cry from those that were released in the past.
You see, in the past around the 90's , musicians were known to sit down and write down the lyrics of their songs. They would be seen with a pen and a notebook or song book, writing down every idea and inspiration that comes to their mind.
I recall that when those musicians were usually interviewed and they were asked about what gave them the inspiration for their songs, they would always have something to say about what or where they got their inspiration from.
They didn't just wake up and walk into a studio to spout out the first thing that came to their mouth without thinking. They were cool lheaded when composing their songs, putting much thought into what they were comppsing and choosing the lyrics carefully.
When you play the songs of the 90's, you will find that their lyrics were meaningful and inspirational. It was quite easy to relate with what the musicians were trying to communicate through their songs.
I remember singers like the late Onyeka Owenu, King Sunny Ade and Sunny Okosun. I remember how good their songs made me feel and how their songs inspired the spirit of patriotism in the hearts of those who listened to the songs. These musicians were rightly acknowleged as Legends of Music.
Now, compared to songs of this recent times, I will mot deny that there are good musicians today. There are good musicians in this dispensation but they are not much and even their songs are being overshadowed by those songs that does not make any sense.
I know this might be against popular opinion but I have noticed that most musicians of this dispensation don't sit to pen down their lyrics. Some of them just walk up to a studio and sart yapping into the microphone. Then they cover up the bad lyrics with good danceable beats and sell it to us for consumption. After listening to the song, you will find yourself becoming angry for no reason. *I usually suffer headaches whenever I listen to such radical songs.
I remember listening to one music and all through the music, I could not make out a decent sentence or phrase. All I heard was "ti ninini nananananana woyo o" in repeated forms. I could not grasp anything from the song from beginning to the end.
To those musicians who still make good music, I would wish that they get good agencies that can help them market and distribute their songs so that it would be widely known by all.
But preferably, I would stick to the songs of the 90's than to some songs of this recent times simply because of the easy beats and lyrics that made meaning to the listeners.
I leave below some songs from the past that still rocks even in this present time.

In Nigeria most of them you see that lack lyrics gets inspiration from weed and highness. Remove weed from them they can compose anything..
That's also a factor to consider. All we hear these days are weed inspired songs.
