It is amazing how something so delicate is able to cause an upturning in any situation. Imagine a room full of people with no sound at all. Hmm, you guessed right, that place would be boring. It is intangible but yet so powerful. I am talking about music. It is one of the most amazing gifts given to humans. I once described a lack of music in this world to be akin to lack of sunlight, lack of taste & sweetness and to lack of colour. These are all major things that make the world look and feel so beautiful and without them, the Earth would be a bland, tasteless and dark world.
The exact emmergence of music is unknown but several archeological facts pointing to several nations agree that, music as an integral part of human culture, dates to as far back as 40, 000 years ago. Can you imagine that!
With how far music has been around on Earth, you would think that it would have faded out by now but amazingly music has evolved from traditional genres comprising of Classical, Jazz, Blues, Folk and Country to more modern genres that fit this generation. Some modern geenres include Pop,Rock, Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B, Soul e.t.c. These are just some of the evlolved genres and more are yet to come.
Psychology of music
What makes music so special and unique to a particular individual or group?
Why do we react to certain kinds of music in a pleasant way and react absurdly to other kinds of music?"
How does the brain perceive and respond to music?
How does music influence our thoughts, feelings and behavioural patterns?
Understanding and giving honest answers to the above questions would encapsulate the psychology of music.
Music is immensely powerful. I call it the food of the soul. Music is a great means of expression, able to express that which is difficult to utter as words. The way music is able to evoke a distinct response in individuals is so cool. For an illustration, certain people reapond to soulful music more than they do to rap music and vice versa. Music has the capability of reducing stress and anxiety. This is very true for me as I find myself always leaning to music whenever I am feeling overwhelmed or streased out.
Music also has the ability to trigger nostalgic memories and feelings in an individual. A young girl I know usually becomes very emotional whenever she listens to "Soledad" by West life and she says it reminds her of her late dad and her loneliness. Music has the tendency to help in cognitive and brain development. Clinical studies have shown that a foetus is able to respond to music even while in the womb.
Music is also very therapeutic and it has since been linked to aiding the recovery of patients with certain mental disorders. Music has calming effects on the minds of people who exhibit psychotic behaviour as well.
Music has also long been a bridge that brings diverse cultural heritage to our door step. This is due to the different style of music and their genres from different countries all over. I can get a glimpse into the cultural heritage of certain countries simply by listening to their music. That's quite fascinating.
In conclusion, it should be known that music is able to evoke social, emotional and cognitive patterns from us all. You can't be stiff to music cos it has the power to pierce even the hardest of souls or hearts.
I rest my pen with this Music is powerful.

Music is powerful o, timeless and beautiful. It's infectious and evokes all manners of emotions. The world would have been so boring without music o.
Ah, how would we have survived this T-pain economy if there was no music to lighten our moods.
My dear sis, you have hit the nail on the head. Music is everything
