Using music as a source of income in a place where it is appreciated well is not a bad idea. But then, if you have a huge target you want to hit as a person, you should learn to always balance it. Find another job to do regardless so your life doesn't just depend on music.
It helps you become independent as a musician and not depend on just earning from music. Because the sincere truth is that music cannot always be there for you as a family man or a person with lots of responsibility. You're not the only one doing what you do. You can't always get gigs. There are times when you might not see anyone to call you for your service.
You should learn to be the kind of person who lives well with or without the money you earn from music. Life is really more than what we think. We should always learn to create more ways for ourselves to earn more as a person. If you learn to be independent and just do music for the love you have for it, you will gain more respect and also earn more.
Because with you having your own money, you will have more time to yourself to rehearse and improve well in the field without thinking otherwise of looking for money anymore.
In fact, at that point, you even have a better gadget that will attract many to call you for your services because they know that they are definitely going to spend less in the sense that if they had the plan to pay for the instruments for rentage, they wouldn't have to any more.
Because they know you will for sure come with your personal gadget, and by doing just that, you even get to earn more. You will always get more and more people to call you that way as a musician. I will never advise anyone to channel all their energy into making their source of income through music alone.
Not because of anything, but because I've literally had some sense of experience, and I can say from those experiences that using music as your only source of income in my country, Nigeria, is a big risk that might end up sucking you dry as you grow older.
Music has a really great impact in the lives of many all over the globe, but then the musicians aren't really appreciated in most cases. Doing music alone is something that requires a lot of attention to be able to grow, as well as building your financial field. It is necessary to do that to save yourself from a lot of insults in the future. Just by doing this yourself, it will always be a plus for you as a person and music at large.
Because as we grow older, we have less strength in doing things in general. So develop yourself and also balance it by building your financial field too.
Many can't keep to being updated in most cases because they are not really appreciated well for what they do, and instead of them doing something extra to earn, they keep up to passing blame around, which makes many of them poor at the end of the day.
Music is never an easy task. It would have been better if we had musicians and instrumentalists, most especially being paid well. It will give them more reasons to want to focus mainly on doing just music. But then, we don't have it that way in my country, especially Nigeria.
Thank you for taking the time to go through my post. I hope you were able to learn something from it. This post was inspired by the #inleo community and also serves as my entry to the #septemberinleo prompt Day 23.
