I grew up knowing music to be a platform for sending information and creating awareness to the masses.
Once anything is going wrong and the government seems to give a deaf ear to it, a brave musician will arise and speak out through music and seek justice.
Back then musicians were like our spokesmen, their hearts are people centered, all they want is the best for their society and they are willing to jeopardize their lives and their career to make their goal a reality.
An example of such a musician is Idris Abdulkareem, who boldly sang a song some time ago when the issue of corruption was getting roots in Nigeria. He boldly talked about the corrupt things the leaders are doing and how they make the poor man a slave.
Rumours have it that after that song, he had to go for an exile because his life was threatened. He eventually lost his place in the music industry but to date, his song is one of the hottest songs.
That is how powerful and indestructible music is. Coming to this era, everything changed. Music is now either about women, drinking, smoking or scamming people.
If you take your time to listen to the lyrics of some songs and it doesn't make you cry for this generation, then your heart is dead.
Previously, music was preaching peace, love, unity, and against crimes, though not all artists but a priority was on righteousness but nowadays the reverse is the case.
No wonder our society is becoming worse, young people grow up with bad character, a touch of violence and a heart set to do evil, all these are the result of what they listen to. Music is not as ordinary has we think it is, is can affect us mentally and spiritually. It has a force that is able to compel one to do what is being preached inside.
This is why I don't listen to secular songs, they don't have anything to offer to me. Sometimes I wish the government would even ban some of them because they are sending the wrong message to society.
I hate so many songs, and a majority are secular, the messages are empty, derailing, and manipulative.
A few are: "Am I a yahoo boy" by Naira Marley and “The Way" by Cazulee. These songs talk about fraud yet the aim is to promote it and not to kick against it.
I don't know their motivation behind the songs but they should have considered the young generation, they should have checked what the songs will do to them before going ahead to release it.
How can a responsible and reasonable adult go to the studio and send that kind of message to the world, they even forget that they will have children someday, I wonder if they will. Be happy if they see their children doing what they preach in their songs.
Music is supposed to be a source of consolation, it is supposed to heal and not to cause more trouble. I wish the government will take action on this and set strict laws against producing songs that are derailing.

It's pathetic what music has been turned to these days. You've totally encapsulated the ordeals these nonchalant music bring to the society and individuals.
A music minister was speaking recently how he was in a state in the US and the Uber he took was playing a detailing song. Guess what the title was, Suicide. It wasn't speaking against committing suicide or providing a way out but soaking the listeners into the act rather.
Music is a powerful tool, and it's sad many don't understand that. I wonder why our government won't ban some of these music. A music video that's clearly portraying violence, drugs, social vices, nudity are aired even on popular TV stations. So pathetic!
You've spoken well man.
