The Effects Of Secular Songs On Spirituality

There is a quote I love so much, "What you listen to is what you become." Our minds are designed wonderfully in such a way that the kind of information we allow into it becomes one of the building materials that will bring about whatever we will become subsequently.
Aside from entertainment, going beyond melody and rhythm, songs are also a medium for passing information to people which later brings about transformation.
People become the kind of songs they listen to. I don't know how it happens, but I am a living testimony of it. There was a period in my life when I focused solely on depressive songs and during that period, suddenly my mindset was shaped toward the fact that I am not loved, I am sad, I am a loner, and the like, within a little period of time, I became depressed. It took me time to get out of that grip.
Never underestimate the potential of music. Music is not just physical, it's also spiritual. I believe that every song we listen to has a spirit that is associated with the kind of message it's passing across backing it up. This is my belief, I don't know about you.
Therefore, I don't like the idea of mixing spirituality with secularity. Two different messages conflicting with each other can't walk together.
Some secular songs preach what is prohibited by some of our religions. Especially nowadays people sing without weighing what they sing. There are many secular songs out there that preach dirty things. I have heard a song that was encouraging people to keep up with the act of internet fraud and intake of drugs.
As someone who is spiritual, how can you cope with listening to that kind of song and obeying what your religion preaches? Imagine what you would become at the end of the day. Imagine the kind of confused mindset you would have.
I am not saying all secular songs are bad. There are goods ones with goods messages, I don't kick against such. But if you are truly spiritual, you would get to a point where even secular songs with good messages won't even sound pleasant to your hearing. There would be a demarcation between it and spiritual songs in your heart.
I don't know about others but personally, secular songs affect my spirituality. From the sounds down to the lyrics, even if what is in there is good, it still makes me feel different each time I listen to it.
This is to tell us how spiritual music is. Try one of these days, play one secular song, then when it's finished, play a spiritual song. You would see the difference right there and then. Each of them has their own kind of atmosphere.
Each of the songs will make you feel a different way. There is a kind of force every one of them carries. I have tried that before, so I can attest to it.
I am not speaking for everyone, I believe we are uniquely made, and my experience might be different from that of yours. Probably, your spirituality mixes with secularity and still flows well. But if you would ask for my opinion, I'll counsel us to pick one side and go with it.
