The Extraordinary Connection Between Music And Memories

The other day, I was taking a walk down to my regular sitting spot and I heard a song oozing out of one of the houses around, immediately one of the memories from my secondary school flashed through my head.

I graduated about nine years ago but that song brought back every thing that happened that day in detail. I had to go and download the song and listen to it again after a very long period of time.

Music is like a memory card, it also has the potency to store certain moments for us. How it does it I can't explain, guess that is why many people say music is mysterious.

There are songs that if I listen to today, it can carry me back to memories of my childhood. I may not be able to catch everything but the moment that the song was playing and the incident occurred will come back fresh.

My father used to love a song very well, he plays it almost every day. The day he had an accident that claimed his life, he and his friends played the song in the car they used for the journey.

That song becomes like a constant reminder of that day to us in the family and to me as an individual. Anywhere I hear it, the first thing that comes to my mind is my late father followed by the news of his demise.

As long as that song remains, I don't think I can ever erase that memory from my head. I know sometimes it hurts but sometimes it's beautiful too because it reminds me of my father and the way he dances to the song.

There is a very big connection between music and memories. In fact, nothing preserves memory like music.

There are songs we sing today as a reminder of what transpired many years ago. Sometimes we may not even be witnesses of those events but the lyrics and the sound of the sound will always trigger the history of that event in our hearts whenever we listen to them.

There is no memory that can't be triggered by music. The thing happens like magic. Sometimes, those songs might not even be talking about the situation but because they were in action when it took place, it captures the moment for us.

Other times, it can be that you have never heard the song but the sound and the lyrics point directly to those moments, before you know it you will see yourself reminiscing on those memories.

With music in the world, certain memories can't be lost. Both the ones that will make us happy and the ones that will make us cry.

The good side to this is, remembering some of those memories can encourage us to be better individuals. Some of them can make us avoid certain things we did before and some will help us to awaken some of the good relationships we allowed to die.

However there is also a bad side to it, some memories can bring back pains and make us continue to wallow in regrets, some can also take us right back into what we have been running from.

Whatever the case is, one just has to learn how to control his or her emotions. If we are able to do just that, then we would be able smile at those memories and let them slide if they are not good for us.
