I remember a certain time when I was facing some difficulty, life became so challenging and I was already giving up on almost everything. During those days a friend of mine came to the house and as we were conversing, he told me that music is his therapist, he then began to talk about his favorite artist and I was impressed.
I later decided to give music a try and I started with the artist he recommended (NF) One thing I noticed was each time I played any of the songs, it was as if it was talking directly to me.
His songs seem to address my issues and understand perfectly the way I felt. So, I added more of his songs and life started making more meaning to me.
Music has impacted my life in so many ways, I will be talking about a few below.
One of the ways music has impacted my life is in terms of emotional relief. I was someone who was moody. I and mood swings were like friends, this minute I am happy, and the next I am already sad. I have suffered with that thing for a long and almost concluded that I would not find a way out but guess what? Since I began to listen to music, it's as if I have gotten an emotion regulator.
Nowadays, whether I am hurt, sad, or troubled if I play the right kind of music, I can be able to put myself together. The song can gather every piece of my emotion together and change my mood.
Although, the cure isn't a permanent solution it is a pill that always works for me each time I engage it.
Another way music has also impacted my life is by educating me about life. If I tell you how much information that I got through music you won't believe it.
Some musicians are preachers, they say only the truth and try to educate their audience. I have been privileged to listen to many of them and I have learned I won't lie.
Also, music has given me the privilege to build myself. If I tell people that it was through music I built self-esteem, how to face the crowd, and how to express myself openly, they often act surprised.
It was through going to rehearsals and singing openly before my fellows that I got to know how to overcome stage fright and feel at ease addressing a crowd.
That has been something that I have been struggling to achieve for a long time. All thanks to music, I can now stand before any kind of crowd and speak without fear. I have not yet reached where I want to but I can't deny the fact that I have improved to some extent.
Social connection is what I have achieved from music as well. Through music I have visited places I have never been before, I have come across different kinds of people that have become a very important part of my life.
It was during one of the rehearsals that I met my best friend, a talented trumpeter and since then we have become like brothers, always showing up for me. I don't even know whether to call him brother or friend but he means even more.
Lastly, the entertainment I get from music is another impact I enjoyed from it. These days people entertain themselves with different things, some that are even harmful but I have music, a very good friend that always seeks the best for me, educating me even while it entertains me.
