THE SPIRIT OF AFRO MUSIC

in AFRI-TUNES24 days ago
Just like most other human, I love music but I have come to realize that I love African music the more. My love for African music might have been as a result of the fact that it is the music that I have practiced the most. What ever it may be, African music is beautiful and I have come to realise that.

THE THINGS I ENJOY MOST ABOUT AFRO MUSIC

PERCUSSIONS: Even though I do not know how to play any percussion, I am always particular about the percussion of a music each time I hear one. Percussion for me are the most important aspect of any instrumental and that is why I always listen closely to the beat of any song. Nevertheless, I have special preference for afro percussions, most especially the soft and easy going ones. If you know the song Ire by Adekunle Gold, then you know exactly what I am talking about.

VOCALS: There are few Afro musicians I have completely fallen in love with simply because of their voice. You can literally hear afro in their voice as they sing. The likes of Simi and Bona Boy are not far from it, they simply sound afro and that is what I am talking about.

THE SPIRIT OF AFRO MUSIC: I think this is the perfect word with which I can define the inner satisfying feeling that afro music brings. I may not be able to give a proper definition of what I mean but I know it. Beyond me, I am assured that who ever loves afro music know it as well. It is that which I love most about afro music, but I yet may not be able to define it. It is what defines every afro music as it is the afroness of a music. I guess you know what I am talking about, it is probably the major reason why you love afro music too, but you may not be able to define it😊.

MY AFRO MUSICAL JOURNEY

I was not always a lover of afro music. As a matter of fact, I initially considered it the most terrible of all musical genre. I in fact disliked most afro musician. My ideology has changed now, though I would not speak of finding every afro musician interesting, but I have taken afro music to be my favourite. Growing up, I played more of western music. But then, I kind of had around after meeting few great afro musicians in Ibadan. These guys helped me realize the beauty of afro music, they helped me discover what I have been missing.

CONCLUSION

I love music generally but my love for afro can never like any other. When I listen to amazing afro musicians like simi, adekunle, Bonaboy, the cavemen and many others. I feel the satisfaction that the spirit of afro music brings. Beyond being an amazing genre, I will prefer afro music over any other anytime.
