There have been quite a lot of songs I’ve enjoyed listening to this year, with each one holding a special place in my heart for unique reasons. This year hasn’t been my best yet but then music has been my companion through highs and lows, adding rhythm to my days and serving as a reminder of moments I want to cherish. Now, out of all the tracks I have vibed to this year, a few stand out not just because of their melodies, but because of the emotions they evoke and the memories they hold.

1."Higher" by Burna Boy

At the very top of my list is Higher by Burna Boy. From the first time I heard this song, i nstantly fell in love the sound. But then, what I love most about this song is its beat and melody—it’s literally vibrant, fast-paced, and uplifting. As usual, burna Boy’s delivery on the song was exceptional, but the contributions of Seyi Vibez and the background singers took the song to another level for me. They brought an incredible harmony that added depth and made the track even more enjoyable.

The lyrics aren’t particularly profound, but they convey a message of striving for greatness, of going higher, which is something I deeply resonate with. This theme aligns perfectly with my aspirations to reach new heights and achieve success. And the song has become a sort of motivational anthem for me, reminding me to keep pushing no matter what challenges come my way. Even on days when life feels overwhelming, Higher has a way of lifting my spirits and keeping me focused on my goals.

2."Eti to Bi To" by Emma OMG ft. Deborah Pelumi and B.B.O.

The second song on my list is Eti to Bi To by Emi Grae, featuring Deborah Pelumi and B.B.O. This beautiful Christian song has been my most-played gospel track this year, and for good reason. It’s a heartfelt expression of gratitude to God, and every time I listen to it, I always feel the need to glorify God for his presence in my life. The lyrics are powerful and carry so much meaning, and the way they praise God in this song was everything for me.

This year has been one of my toughest years yet, but then I’ve witnessed God’s blessings in so many areas of my life. From providing for me to protecting me and just being there for me. I literally have so much to be grateful for. Even the simple act of being alive to see the end of the year is a testament to God’s grace. Listening to Eti to Bi To always reminds me to pause and appreciate everything I’ve received and no matter what mood I’m in, this track always fills me with peace and gratitude.

3."No Chill" by PartyNextDoor

My third favorite song of the year is No Chill by PartyNextDoor. This is one of the foreign tracks I discovered on TikTok, and it quickly became one of my favorites. After hearing a snippet on the app, I decided to check out the full version on Spotify, and it was love at first listen. The vibe of the song is unmatched—it’s smooth, catchy, and effortlessly cool.

I have actually played this song so many times that my roommates have started to complain about how often it’s on repeat. But I can’t help myself; I just love everything about it. The song doesn’t carry a particularly meaningful message, but that doesn’t take away from its beauty. It’s fun with a slow vibe, and it makes me feel good every time I hear it. Sometimes, that’s all you need from a song—to just feel alive and carefree.

4."Delusional" by Chris Brown

Last but certainly not least is Delusional by Chris Brown. This song is an absolute masterpiece, and it’s easily one of my favorite R&B tracks of the year. Chris Brown’s vocals on the song was smooth and emotive, and the lyrics actually hit deep.

What I love most about Delusional is the way it combines emotion with a captivating melody. The beat is soft yet engaging, and it complements Chris Brown’s voice perfectly. This is one of those songs I listen to when I need to unwind or reflect. It has this soothing quality that makes me feel calm, even when life gets chaotic and every time I listen to it, I discover something new in the lyrics or melody, and it keeps pulling me back for more.

These four songs have defined my year in so many ways. From Burna Boy’s Higher, which motivates me to push forward, to Eti to Bi To, which reminds me to be thankful, to the carefree vibe of No Chill and the emotional depth of Delusional, each one has contributed to my journey this year. I’m actually very grateful for the moments these songs have accompanied me through, and I look forward to discovering even more incredible music in the year to come.

Thanks for reading.
