Music: A therapeutic medicine then and now.

in AFRI-TUNESlast month (edited)

Music is everything we liken it to be even more. Music has gradually,in a subtle way, formed a major part of our everyday lives that we as individuals can't do without. The global world undeniably has its diversities but at the tune of music, we all speak one language, moving our legs and body in a rhythmic way that syncs with the sounds and beats - In short, everyone forgets their sorrows and worries at the sound of a beautiful song, choosing to enjoy the moment and pend brooding as later duties.
As a growing child in a small village in the Western part of Africa,I have seen, and now we tell, how music healed and still healing many. Foremost, before I dive into that, I'd like to shed more light on the notion of of "How music heals"." Healing can be from anything, not necessarily from physical wounds; it could be from traumatic experiences, depression, grief, emotional pain, betrayal,, etc.

"To the then ways of how music heal".
At the sunset of the sun, the men would return from the farms and their women from the market. As usual, everyone had already apportioned duties in preparing the dinner like every other night. The children would help with minor chores, and and the mothers would sit on asmall stool as they widely spread their fleshy thick thighs around the traditional stove made of three stones, blowing air with a hand-fan made from bamboo fronds so as to get the cooking done on time.
The "Baba" would keep their legs crossed while laying on a wooden armed stretcher chair as they listened to "Juju" or "Apala" songs buzzing from their stereo radio. They would sing and hum along with the songs coming off the radio, thereby calming their spirit, soul, and body as they drew strength from it for the morrow.

"The now".

We all do have ways of expressing our emotion and feelings especially, the negative ones like frustration, sadness, low vib,e, etc. Music is not far-fetched among the ways we tend to relieve ourselves from these feelings; we all emote through music.
A musician who sings is expressing his or her thoughts, feelings, and deepest emotions through music, and on the other hand, a listener who gets to listen to the song coincidentally can relate to the same song, leaving both to experience the same feeling and find healing through the song.

There were nights when I would cry myself to sleep because of pains that I couldn't share with anybody but music - music is the healing balm of Gilead that I would spread generously on my wounded heart, lying in a vulnerable posture on the bed for it to take over me.
There were also days when I would wake up in the morning, feeling cringy and cranky; music was my accompaniment on such days. I would listen to songs until I feel lifted, until my countenance changes.

Music is life and through it, we all are living life productively and healthily.
