Preserving Our Culture and Tradition°°°Afri-InLeo 40
Nigeria is a country with over 250 different languages and culture, we have so many ethnic groups but yet there is peace and understanding between us in the country except for some few cases.
There are moments of disagreements but the love for one another always supersede our differences. Thou we are of different tribes and tongues, we are all spread amongst ourselves regardless and we're still able to maintain the spirit of unity and togetherness.
I happen to come from the middle belt part of the country where there are more different tongues living there compared to the north, east, west and southern parts of the country.
The four geopolitical zones have dominant tribes with high population of people compare to my region where we have lots of different languages amongst the few population we are having..
We have learn to appreciate and value our distinct cultures, whenever you step into another persons territory you must obey the rules and regulations guiding that jurisdiction, we do not play with our culture and tradition. Sadly, our generation is pushing a different narrative about our cultural values and norms, genZ don't care anymore about their culture and tradition because they are carried away with technology and have classified our cultural norms and values as old school.
As we advance in knowledge, I understand some of the practices and believes in our culture are unimportant for the human race e.g sacrifices to appraise some unknown gods, undermining the strength of the girl child in the society, rituals, killings and some superstitious believes but there are beautiful aspects of our culture and tradition we should never neglect e.g mother tongue, traditional foods, music, traditional marriage, discipline and lots more.
I'll lay emphasis on discipline and music, since the two are the most important for this post.
Life wasn't as complicated as it is now in the pass, the desperation in our society is leading many astray. The main purpose of relationship has been compromised, principles of wealth which requires patience and hard work has been bypassed, no respect for the elderly people in the community because discipline as gone very far away from the youths. If we hold some of our cultural norms and values at heart, life wouldn't be this complicated. Our culture demands we respect elders, dress properly and always stand for what is right but sadly reverse is the case. If only we can reposition our minds to some of these cultural norms and values, the world will become better.
One of the things that keeps our culture alive is our traditional songs.
If our culture is important to us one of the ways to protect it is by not forgetting those beautiful traditional songs we learned from when we were little. It is our responsibility to preserve our culture and one of the easy way to do that is by teaching the younger ones coming up some of those songs from our culture. Music is highly contagious and can be used as a vital tool in preserving our culture and traditions.
We all have the responsibility of educating our younger ones about our culture and traditions through different means. For me, the aspect of my culture I can do better is the dancing steps and few songs since I grew up watching my parents dance to those tribal music, they never spoke the language to me and that's one of the reasons I find it difficult to speak it fluently but I'm trying.
I also love my traditional food very well and eat it allot since they were made much available for me by my parents.
Not my traditional food it's as delicious as this one
You see whatever you teach a child, he or she grows with it so, it is important to inculcate our cultural norms and values to our children in every possible way we can, through music, dance, attire, food etc these are essential factors that will help preserve our belove culture. Not everything about our culture is bad, we can sieve the good ones and neglect the terrible ones.

Yesss, my culture my pride. Thanks very much boss for sharing this with us. I really enjoyed every bit of it. I so much love African culture both the dressing, the food and many more but the discipline and music interests me most. This post really captured me ; the notes are very educative and the pictures now crown it up with beauty especially the food that would love to have a test of it. Thanks very much boss for sharing this with us, may the Lord continue to bless you with more inspiration to share with us.
