When music fades: the void of melody

in AFRI-TUNESyesterday

Music is inherent. I can boldly say speaking is almost the same as singing (which is a form of music) and this means ever since man has existed, music has been part of humanity as long as speaking.
It is quite unimaginable to picture a world without music. A world where no harmonic sound would be heard, no melody would be sung, symphony and rhythm never exist but only a gigantic void left by the absence of music.

I would define music as an organised sound that is pleasant to the ear. Trying to imagine a world without music is like a world without pleasant sound. The only sound our ear will be accustomed to would be noise literally. The noise from factories, traffic, honking horns, people literally shouting at each other, and maybe the chirping of crickets at night time.

I watched a movie recently titled A Quiet Place. In this movie, humans can't make sound without risking their lives. And I can so much relate the movie to a world without music which will be pretty much sad and boring. Most happy things have music in them so it will be hard to express joy and happiness without it.

Music is an integral part of performing art. Meaning without music, art and creativity will be affected. There are a lot of thoughts, ideas and expressions that can be best represented by music, so imagine a lot of thoughts and ideas that would be locked away. Imagine dancing without music, or watching a movie without any soundtrack. It will be so lifeless as music adds life to everything.

Speaking of boredom, most humans would be depressed sad and bored without music. Music has the power to connect with the soul, be a source of inspiration and even can be therapeutic. Imagine a world without that energetic upbeat that fuels you through that boring job that favourite song that makes scream along to the lyrics with happiness or that solemn song that gets you in the mood of worship. Music is a human's little therapist and best friend.

Music has played a lot of roles in everything from our happiness to even our economy. Music has been a source of revenue to many and indirectly to a country’s economy. Music also promotes interrelationships between countries and even promotes commerce.

Music tells stories and preserves history, especially traditional songs. Cultural songs also give vibrancy to our culture and heritage. Imagine a cultural festival or dance without music or the absence of those folklore songs that have been passed down from generation to generation which is used in telling histories and knowledge about our heritage, keeping them alive.

As humans though, we will surely find a way to survive since adaptation is one of our characteristics (our secret superpower)
But notwithstanding, music is life and a world without music cannot exist, could not exist, and will not exist! It is hard to imagine a substitute for music cause the role played by music is unbeatable and priceless.

To be honest, I have never thought of the value of music until this post. I’m ashamed to realize that I have not appreciated music enough as it has been a therapist and a best friend all along.
