Music which is life has been in existence right from the ages, this means, right from the creation. God himself loves music and that's why he created Lucifer, the head of the singers in the heaven. Also, one thing I have read and heard times without number is that, God dwells in worship and that the angels are meant to worship through songs in the heaven. So, all these are pointer that music has been in existence right from the ages, or inception of the world.

So, when talking about music, it's not meant for we humans alone, but even our creator who created the heaven and the earth dwells in it and that's why music is life and it's so powerful. Music gives life and nourishes the soul, spirit and body. But there's music and music, what I mean by this is that, there are good music and other music, don't let me use bad word for the other one, just let me leave it like that.

So, seeing this topic which I have always wanted to talk about makes me feel like this is the right time to bring to the public what my opinions are on the differences between the music in the 90s and that of this dispensation. Though, both gives life to people and makes people lively, but one thing is that, there's differences when placed sides by sides.

When talking about the 90s music, we have singers or betterstill that have in one time or the other plied their talent on the musical scene and not only that, they also, made it big during their own time and made great impact in their own generation as well. In the 90s, we have musician like Ebenezer Tobey, king Sunny Ade, Fatai Rolling Dollar, Sikiru Ayinde Barrrister, millington, sir shina peter,Chief Orlando Owoh and their other contemporaries. These set of people came, saw and conquered on the musical stage and their genres of music ranges from, Juju, afrobeat, Fuji, apala and others.

Though then I was still young, but these people and their genres of music were deep and it comes with deep meaning, the lyrics of their song are always full of words of encouragement, advice and motivation. Unlike that of today that are of less motivation, words of encouragement and advice but full of beats. There's a day I asked one of my students at school to write out the lyric of a song he was listening to, when he wrote it out and brought it to me, there's nothing to be learnt from the lyrics of the song, nothing to motivate or encourage a broken heart in the lyrics of today's songs written by today's musician.

Apart from the deep meaning the songs or the 90s music carry, those characters being paraded in their videos are of decent heritage, the way they dress alone preach decency to their listeners and this goes a long way in building the mind of the youth and holding families together back then in the 90s, unlike today where what makes the video of music to have high sales and attract more people to watching their videos is to dress naked and expose their body to the watchers of their videos.

But now thing that makes a big difference from this current music dispensation and that of 90s is the way people of nowadays have access to music video or tape. Nowadays, people have easy and direct access to musical videos and tape through their smart phones and other gadgets brought about technology in the recent time. In fact one can wake up and have access to the just released video or audio tape of his or her choice unlike in the past, when this is not possible, the only way to have access to musical tape being it audio or video is buy cassettes or disc. Then there's this black and big disc that people most of whom were rich play on their stereo.

Also, making money out of music then can't be compared to what's obtainable now, then, money can be made through the sales of cassettes and going to show or concert, but now, endorsements and ambassadorial deals are other means of making for the artiste of today. Then also, they were called musician, but now, we refer to those singer as artiste. Like I listed those musician of old when I started, I will also list out those artists that are making waves most especially in Nigeria now, we have the likes of wizkid, Davido, Burnaboy, Saheed Osupa, Pasuma and the likes. These people with their genres of music have really made serious impact on the soil of the land.

So, one thing is that, the world is moving fast and like the popular saying in my language that says, " you act according to your dispensation." So, both dispensations are meant for their time and that's why one is not better off the other.

This is my entry to the Februaryinleo of the Afri-inleo initiative.
