Music and memory are like the siamese twins that are inseparable. Music brings life while memory keeps life. The connection between the two cannot be overemphasized and this is because, without memory music cannot be and without music, the memory will not have something to save. Music helps to give life to memory and makes memory to be active. So, the connection between music and memory is a strong one.
When talking about the connections between the two, we will see that both work together for the general good of the musical world, and also help in making a sharp memory. One thing I have noticed so far about music and memory is that, music boost and sharpens the brain. No matter how dull or empty ones brain is, music is a sharpener that sharpens the brain and bring it back to life. Sometimes ago, while working at a company, I met a young boy, a primary school pupil who was around 9 years of age then, so, whenever his mum or anyone sent him, I mean this boy on an errand, maybe to buy something for them, it's then the boy will use such item to compose a song and sings with it so as not to forget the item while on his way to get it. If for instance, he was sent to get a pack of sweet, the boy when going to get the pack of sweet, will be singing like this, " one pack of sweet, $2, one pack of sweet $2." So, this young boy would compose the song so as to remember what he was sent and he will not forget it. But once he stopped singing, there's this probability he would not remember the item again. Look at the power in the connection of music and memory.
Another connection between music and memory is that of memory recalls. I have seen situations where music brings back memories. I could remember in those days when I was a student, whenever we are preparing for exams and everything seems hard and difficult to assimilate, we turn to composing music with what we've read and whenever we get to the examination hall to write the exams, it's always easy for me and me friends to recall all those words turn to lyrics by us in the examination hall. This has really helped us to bring back our memories. Even apart from that, music has always bring back the good old days. Surely, music brings back memories.
One other connection between music and memory is that music helps to inspire the brain, I have seen people getting inspiration through music and one thing about inspiration is that it comes only through ones memory or brain. Listening to good music inspires the memory and sharpens the brain.
Also, music is an immune booster to the brain or memory. When the memory is weak maybe through stress such as, mental or emotional stress, music brings strength and power to the brain. It revives the brain. This can even be seen in the bible, when king saul was being tormented by a strange spirit. His brain and memory were being tormented and in the process, he asked for someone vast in playing harp. So, music is a immune booster to the memory. The connection is a strong one.
There's also emotional connection between music and memory. The memory helps to connect emotions to music and this is when we see people crying when they listen to good and emotional songs. The feeling is erupted through songs, but the memory brings it out. Such songs like love and other emotional songs makes people feel emotional.
Music also feeds the memory, music is like a food to the memory and in lieu of this, it nourishes the memory and makes it healthy. It reduces mental stress and makes it function. Music and memory cannot be separated at all. This is because memory helps to keep the musical records. One thing that amazes me most is that, if a student don't even know how to write or spell his or her name, he will know to sing, as a teacher, I have seen many cases, where students can't even write or spell their names, but when it comes to singing, they sing without missing any word from the lyrics of the song. I just used to wonder how that is possible, but one thing I have learned from that is that, there's a strong connection between both music and memory and also, music is magical. It doesn't have to do with your level of education or status. The only it does is to bring out the best in you via your memory.
So, like I said earlier, music and memory are two inseparable things and they work and go hand in hand for the betterment of humans.

Music indeed sharpens the brain. I learnt how to count upto hundred from music. Some of the two letter words I am very familiar with also came from music. The connection between music and our memory is clear
