Last Saturday, our office celebrated 14th August. The question on everyone's mind was why they chose to celebrate it on Saturday, 10th August, instead of the 13th. Everyone knew the answer, but when they asked me, the reason was that Saturday is a half-day at our office. To avoid affecting work, the program started after 2 PM. If it were held on the 13th, no one would stay after 6 PM since everyone is eager to go home. Considering these things, the program was scheduled for Saturday.
I am a very patriotic Pakistani, and I am happy that my boss is also patriotic. I say this because the boss always celebrates 14th August with great enthusiasm. This time, too, the boss made excellent plans and programs, thanks to his advisors who gave suggestions, decorated the office for the celebration, and arranged everything.
The boss especially ordered a huge flag for this day, which is so large that it covers the entire floor. The flag was placed at the gate, and balloons were placed on the floor. A fantastic cake was ordered, and lunch was chicken biryani from Friends restaurant, which is very famous. These were the arrangements made.
At exactly 2 PM, we all went to the office gate, lined up, and then sang the national anthem. It felt great to hear everyone singing the anthem together in one voice. After that, we all went to the first floor.
Then, the boss asked each of us to give a speech about Pakistan. I also gave a speech and shared my views that we need to make good progress, and everything depends on our new generation. We pray that everything goes well in the future. One colleague made a very good point that we truly understand the value of our country when we meet overseas Pakistanis. From their words, we realize that living in our own country is something special, despite the challenges; there’s a sense of belonging and freedom here.
After the speeches, it was time for national songs. Some colleagues sang in their melodious voices, and everyone clapped along to encourage them. We had a great time, and the atmosphere became very lively.
After that, we had the cake-cutting ceremony. The boss didn’t cut the cake himself but asked the team to do it. The cake looked very nice, and it tasted good too. After the cake-cutting ceremony, we took group pictures and then went to the top floor.
Up there, it was all fun. The biryani was served in a way that it didn’t spill, so everyone could sit together and enjoy it. The food was really good. They served Pakola as a cold drink. The biryani was a bit spicy for me, but it was delicious. Everyone enjoyed the biryani, and later, the boss even gave some to take home. I really liked the program, and we should continue to celebrate this day together like this. It’s a special day for all of us, the Pakistanis.
