The fruit of a tall unbranched monocot (Cocos nucifera) of the family Palmae. Coconut trees are widespread throughout the world's tropics; This tree grows well in low land and small islands especially on the sea coast. This tree grows abundantly in Sri Lanka, Malaysia and India.
The height of the tree is 20-30 meters, the stem is smooth and cylindrical, tapering towards the top. Coconut trees grow everywhere in Bangladesh. However, its production is good in coastal saline soil. The types of coconuts cultivated in Bangladesh are Tipica Green, Tipica Brown and Milk. Depending on the variety, 200 or more coconuts are produced per tree per year. Coconut is an economically important fruit. Recently, coconuts are being planted as sidewalks in some cities of this region. The land under coconut cultivation and the amount of coconut produced in Bangladesh are about 5,192 hectares and 2,71,135 may tons respectively.
The hard shell of the coconut is milky white and quite tasty. Its shells are used in making various types of cakes, sweets, biscuits, chocolates and various cooking. Vegetable oil made from dried coconut shell is used in cooking, soap, shampoo and other cosmetic products apart from scalp use. After oil extraction, the abandoned oil is used as animal feed.
Young coconuts are called dab; Dab water is tasty and nutritious. Dub is also used as a medium for tissue culture. Tree trunks are used to make house frames, pool poles, house poles and spear handles. This tree is widely planted as a homestead tree for fruit and other purposes in the central and southern regions of Bangladesh.
