I think what your are really saying is
Don't Be Naive.
But your point is solid.
A mind that doesn't apply the necessary focus can be left regretting. Specially when you (after the fact) have to come to terms with knowing you didn't focus. Failing at something we fully apply ourselves to doesn't sting the same, because we acknowledge we did give full effort.
Adapt, Adapt, Adapt
Then becomes the mantra.
Because even when you slip,
You've got ability to give task correct focus, and turn it into a win well before you kick an own goal.
