Would You Still Be Blogging if Hive Wasn't Around?

The answer for me is yes but in Web2. And I don't mind doing it for free as I gradually build up the skills to monetize my craft. I still want to dive into digital illustrations outside my current career.

This post was inspired by the tweet below:

I started checking crypto during the early 2018 and it was around that time when things were about to turn ugly. But before things went down, I've been lurking in forums reading stories about how crypto was changing their lives.

"... all the stories about crypto opportunities and communities were just fluff"

I probably would have entered the cryptosphere during recent 60k BTC bull run had it not been from a friend's recommendation to try shitposting from the legacy chain. It wasn't the rewards that really made me stick around since the old curation practices then were harsh to newcomers. It was getting some compliments and recognition for participating in art contests initiated the habit until that habit translated to trying to get better at thriving within the ecosystem. This led to me participating more in community activities and growing my network.

I had nothing but an account with shitposts on it. But everyone who has ever thrived on this blockchain long would already know that it's really more about connecting with others. Sure, there's going to be outliers who thrive with less interactions because they don't need it if rewards were the main goal. But if anyone would tell me that networking had little to do with their success here and it's purely out of their amazing content that brought them consistent rewards, someone do me a favor and pop their bubble.

I've been posting a few art stuff on my alt @artofadamada and sharing it cross platforms. You know, making content and trying out new things for kicks and giggles. I got nothing for my time except a few likes and views. But no monetary rewards for bothering unlike posting it on Hive. On Hive, you can tip people and the system rewards you for doing it with a 50% kickback on curation and you lose nothing.

And several communities are built around this reward system and thriving. Unlike entering into other crypto projects where you need to pay a fee upfront just to access a community, this one just requires a sign up and read community generated guidelines. For an average user that's been onboarded by a word of mouth, this place must be too good to be true.

20% APR on HBD? probably a scam if you're not yet in the ecosystem. But it's real. Your shitposts can actually earn you money? like posting opinions and stuff that people just scroll over on their facebook feed get tipped? But it's real and many don't know about it.

In some parallel universe, your alternate version might have never heard of Hive and probably had their crypto experience littered with scams and fails. But this is the reality of the countless folks that tried the space and got burned just for purchasing the wrong token and got involved with the wrong crowd.

I made a social experiment for myself and started posting on other platforms. I know there's less that would care and my content would be invisible on the algorithms but I tried being a blogger. If my success metric includes monetizing my content relative to the amount of time I have to put doing networking, and content production, I'd say shitposting on Hive speeds up the process for several (n)th times. Gone are the days where web2 bloggers could dream of earning their first few cents per month for ad space on their blogs. Here, 1 shitpost can probably generate you a dollar saving you from waiting years to get anywhere shitposting somewhere else (web2 space).

I don't think Hive was meant to be a place where people can trade their regular jobs because of the income here (probably would be if Hive went higher but not right now). It's not a bad place to consider as a side hustle and learn how to navigate the cryptospace without getting burned.

Maybe Hive's low token value is a good thing. Big values attract a lot of attention, even the ones that you don't want to attract will want to be in the space. Because everyone will celebrate with you during the good times but those that matter will be there during the tough times.

If you weren't present in the legacy chain days or didn't know Hive, where you be active in the cryptospace?

If you made it this far reading, thank you for your time.

Probably not to the same capacity I do now. I came to Hive having grown exhausted working in entertainment media as a journalist. I like writing and talking films with people, but the discussions I have about films with people are very different to the reviews I make. Sometimes I ramble on and make posts as if I am talking like I would to others. It depends, really.

I do love the community side of things, but I'm also really not a social person. I use a few websites here and there for the interests I have. So, I guess my answer is yes and no. :^)

Similar intentions and insights there except the part where I just blog to create a portfolio for digital illustrations (frustrated still due to my day job) but it's a nice fall back. An alternate universe me would be living my dream and complain about it, then post about wanting to have my life.

Nah, I wouldn't.

Maybe. I started blogging about things well before Hive.

Which platform would you be sharing those?

I used to do Bloggers and share on Facebook before I gave up.

Earlier I used to use steemit and now I came here and the people here are very nice and very supportive and don't have any bad words in heart for others if anyone makes progress I pray for him. And after this platform I might not be able to do it again.

Blogging on facebook i think.

But for the animations - Youtube

And drawings - Deviant art or other artist website.

Hive has helped me generalized and combine them all to 1 platform. Although i also post on the alternatives as well.

Lately i just focus on Youtube and hive.

But the platform i spend the most in, in terms of chatting is discord.

Ano yung deviantart acc mo?

*Secret. Grrrrrrrr

I can just dm you the dick pics

I am new to Hive. I think I joined here in July 2023, but I have already been in crypto since the pandemic. I am not a pro, but I never regret joining cryptospace. I am happy that I learned about it and meet other people. 😊

I hope to see you more active on this space, I checked your blogs and wondered about the familiar name.

That was a lot of words. They passed by in a blur. Must've learned something but still scratching my head over what it was I learned.

Oh well, at least I was occupied for a time there.

I was blogging before HIVE, but not as articulate or graphical.
I agree with you. Maybe a lower value is good for avoiding being a target.

It’s an interesting question and thought. Would I still be doing these things on another platform? Hard to say. I certainly love the ability to write down my thoughts though and catalog things that occur, to a filtered extent of course. With how straight forward it is to do these things here, I would constantly be comparing it back to hive haha.

I’m lucky that I got exposed to the legacy chain though, the guy who was using it before that it me into it quit soon after I started and I even asked him to come back but he says no thanks even though the appreciation of the price has done well. People certainly only want to be around for the good times, the lazy shits.
