RE: Presidents and What They Say: Does It Matter?

in Rant, Complain, Talk • 8 days ago

Hello @cmplxty,

Thank you for reading 😇

I wish the best for my country. I think you know my position, from previous blogs, but I tried in this one to present an overview of the historical record.

You are right...the speeches of recent presidents seem scripted, some more than others. I think Eisenhower and Carter were a little more distinctive. Then, going way back, earlier presidents put a more personal stamp on what they said, I believe. Now, though, we have a speech-writing industry. Professionals. Although I think Trump's speech also was more distinctive than some others.

Do they mean what they say? Bush '89's second-term ambitions were famously sunk by his 'no new taxes' promise. Of course, he raised taxes.

We are in the midst of a presidency that already has left its mark in the history books. How will it all work out? I hope for the good. On that, you and I, loyal citizens, agree.

I think your community is great. An important presence on Hive.
