Hobby Hunger

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about how sometimes, we get into zones where we don't get to partake in some of our hobbies!

Hobby Hunger

I haven't been partaking in one of my hobbies, and it ain't cool!

As we get older, and the things in our life change, one of the big things that we have to change and adapt to is the change in our hobbies. I've certainly changed my hobbies over that time, and it's been a great change. I think that's a good part of maturing, in many ways. There are some things I used to do for hobbies such as skateboarding that just aren't fitting into my life anymore. At the same time though, some of the new hobbies I've gotten enjoyment out of, have been happening a bit less!!

Photography is for sure one of my favorite things I've been doing in the last few years. Being able to take fun and interesting photos has been a pretty cool experience for me, as well as my son. That predicates on being able to get out there and take the darn photos though! These days.. I haven't been able to get out there to take them and it's been bothering me a bit haha.

I know that there are things in life that simply change, and we have to get used to them. Being able to partake in all the hobbies that we develop over time is unlikely, because of course our priorities change. My son has been less interested in going for walks with me, and instead always wants to play some type of sport. It's great for him, his exercise and getting out his energy. Where it's not so great is that I have way less new photos coming in LOL.

I for sure, at the end of the day, don't mind it all that much. It's important that he gets the enjoyment that he does out of his life, so that it can be continually built upon good and enjoyable things. Not in the fashion of over-indulging but getting a lot of fun and time to be a kid instead of seeing the world for the difficult place that it is. He will ultimately see that in the world, but I try to shield him from that as much as it makes sense. I know there are always going to be things that I won't be able to do, but reducing the impact of them is really important.

With the warmer weather coming up a lot more consistently, one of the things I am looking forward to is hopefully being able to go on some walks or hikes so that we can find places to take cool photos at. I know that I haven't taken him on a true hike in a while, so hopefully we can grab our gear and partake in that one of the weekends coming up!

Thankfully though, there are always things to adapt to. I could figure out how to take different pictures or scenery and still get the things that I want, while we let the little dude have fun doing the sports thing. I think we can make both worlds happy!

What about you, have you had a reduction in the time you get to do one or more of your hobbies? How are you handling that? Let me know in the comments!

I can totally relate with the part of not wanting to go out but wanting to take some more pictures, lol. For me, I do a little of in-house photography and it comes out really nice but then, nothing beats going out there, hehe.

Yeah that's very true! There's plenty of things I can photograph in the house and I'll actually try that with my son tomorrow. He always wants more play time with me, which I get, just gotta fit it in between the chores and stuff lol.

Thanks for the idea :D! There’s for sure nothing like going outside for some photos though!

Great! I will be looking forward to seeing some of them when you take them..

Have a great week ahead!

Most of my hobbies cost money, so it's less about whether I want to do them and more about whether I can afford to do them!

Oh boy! What a hobby!

Haha yeah, thankfully a portion of my hobbies do, and a portion doesn't! That way when I'm on a budget, we stick with the ones that don't lol. The struggle is real though that's for sure!

Yeah, I've spent a lot of money between vinyl, whiskey, concerts, and camping. It's expensive to have fun.

Ironically, the first time that came to my mind was Hive. I do enjoy spending time writing and engaging people, and learning new stuff, on Hive but I have learnt over time that I needed to strike a balance with other aspects of life as well. For example, if I were to stay up too late and don't get sufficient sleep/rest, it would affect my health/mind at work the next day, or if I were to forgo my exercise sessions just to read a few more posts here, it's neither healthy nor good for my weight as well. Over time, it's really about finding a balance and accept that there's only 24 hours a day and every hobby/activity has its place in one's life.
