Not Until After

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about a silly hangup I had the other day while trying to do some writing!

Not Until After

Trying to pre-load some posts with pictures and it just doesn't feel right! I like to pick the pictures after I'm done writing for most things, not beforehand..

The other day I was working at my side hustle. When I do that, I tend to try and figure out what I would like to write about the night before, because I get to spend a few minutes of time in the parking lot before it all. I enjoy that time alone, because it allows me to think but also to do some writing which is always good. If I am able to, I can churn out 3-4 posts if the mood hits me right!

One of the things I tried the other day when I was doing that, was to pre-load some pictures in a draft post and then do some writing after. I know that it may sound weird.. but that doesn't work with my mojo!

I always write what I want to write, unless it's a DIY post where I have a very specific goal in mind, and then I add the pictures afterwards. This allows me to get my thoughts out there without having to fiddle around with moving them to the right spot between photos and shit. There isn't a specific formula or anything I use for that, but just something I have developed my own little style for.

With trying to pre-load the photos, it threw me off a bit! Lol. I ended up skipping this post that I drafted altogether, and wrote 2 different posts. I came back to it a few days later of course, but that was a pretty funny situation for me to be in.

I think I don't entirely mind having a little hang-up like that. We all have to be incredibly adaptive to the world around us we are living in, but there are some things that we will not adapt well enough to and this is for sure one of mine!

I like having my own little flow, and not that I am opposed to changing the flow, but there isn't really a gigantic need for me to do any adaptations to that so I figure fuck it, why bother?

The psychology of it definitely interests me though - need to do something in a specific routine. We know that humans are for sure creatures of habit, because there is a constant fight inside our brains for the conscious and subconscious to take control over what is going on. The subconscious always wants control, or perhaps the conscious is always trying to throw shit at the subconscious to try and offload as much as possible? That is an interesting debate for sure, and I wonder if there is a way for scientists to even be able to prove something like that.

What about you, do you have specific strategies and formulas that you do for things that you don't like to change? Let me know in the comments!

I always upload my photos before I write, particularly for travel so I use the photos as a guide on how I structure my post. The other reason I do that is so I immediately have quite a lot of content in my post, I find it easier than writing on a blank screen

Yeah for travel posts I think I prefer to preload the photos as well! I guess I don't write enough of them to have remembered lol.

Writing on a blank screen is a little intimidating at first that's for sure!

For me, adding pictures before hand will mostly be a distraction against my flow of thoughts unless the pictures themselves are a core aspect of the post. For the fun of it, I may try adding pictures without any resonance with the main topic of the post and see how it influences my writing :)
