Elections are a really important thing the closer you get to your home town. The further out you go, the less it is because you have less of an impact and more of a chance for some shenanigans to go on and the results of the election are not real.
With elections being local - you can show up at their door and demand things if need be. Nationally you can’t do that and it makes it easier to cheat and steal.
