Don't really care much for condominiums, but that same can hold true for townhouse projects and even "planned neighborhoods" that have some kind of HOA. We live in one such neighborhood now, and the trouble here is that there are often "special assessments" for one thing or another than needs to be done within the community. Next year, we can look forward to an extra $200 payment per quarter because they need to build a reserve to resurface the roads in 2028.

That's horrible, how HOAs become organizations that are supposed to be looking out for people's best interest end up being used as mini governments. I'd be hounding the receipts if it mounted to several special assessments.
