Storm Warning!

It's been a weird couple of days...
As we've officially entered "hurricane season" we had to deal a very serious storm warning.

It had the potential to become a tropical storm and it would pass right in between Curacao and Venezuela.

Now the ABC islands: Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao have historically been very lucky in terms of hurricanes. They don't usually hit, it's at most a storm.

That being said the current infrastructure on Curacao struggles with heavy rain fall. It's just not ready. With all the hills, slopes and dry soil a lot of rainfall causes problems and light flooding in some areas. Let alone a full in tropical storm...

So the government acted... There was to be a curfew at 16h the next day. People were out and about doing there shopping to prepare. I think hardware stores saw uncanny amount of traffic.

Of course there were the doubters, because it doesn't often happen some people tend to underestimate the situation.
It was until the day of (June 29th) when the morning press conference moved the curfew to 11 am!!! (because the storm picked up speed) that people REALLY started to take it seriously. I was at work and we had to clear out the office a hurry.
(I work in marketing so it was extra busy getting all the social posts out).

Making my way home through a traffic jam I realized I didn't have enough time to buy sandbags to place in from on my front door.

I was calm but I did need that solution because water runs down (past) my apartment from the street.
So picture me stopping on the side of the road, in the rain, filling to heavy duty trash bag with sand I saw I happen to see on the side of the streets....
I was calm but if any news outlet happen to be there it would definitely be a "People are desperate on Curacao" headline 😂...

The weird thing is... And I hope I don't sound overly dramatic here.. But it brought back some of the anxieties we've had in the previous year...
Another lockdown... People scrambling at supermarkets and hardware stores... Not knowing being stuck inside...
I had some flashbacks 😔.

In the end though. The storm missed us!
It lost some power and changed course right before it would be at its worst for us. We ended up with a lot of rain but weird rain. It came and went and in between it was just grey with no wind... And then suddenly a lot go rain for 10 min and then nothing...

So we were spared once again and the code red was brought back to yellow etc... Ended up having to go to work like any normal day today.
But it really wasn't... I'm sure a lot of people just carried on but I realize... We got lucky!

That's it for me today!
Guess it was more of a talk than a rant 😂
Stay safe!

Ah that sounds like an intense day! Having your wits about you and remaining calm is definitely important. If we let ourselves get too emotional and scared we won’t make good decisions. Sounded like you had some good about you! Now keep that sand nearby for the rest of hurricane season lol

Dear @gvkanten, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago when the HBD stabilizer proposal rose above it.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work?
You can do it on Peakd, Ecency,
