Crap... is it now forced time for a new laptop? I really hate this

Warning: Get ready for your another rant guys, if you want to keep your vibes to a good day.....Then stand up and walk away from this post, because this is just a complaining session

There is nothing more annoying when you receive notifications on that you have to replace something that isn't broken. Just recently I received a notification about that my Windows 10 support will be stopping and that I can shift over to Windows 11 for zero fee. Well, that sounds just fine and friendly right as a reminder to get you over to the new system and it won't even be costing you anything.

There is even a friendly tool that you can use to check and see if your current computer is compatible to use with the new software on it.

Spoiler Alert: This one ofcourse isn't.

And this is what I really get annoyed of. I am actually extremely proud that this laptop of 7.5 years old is still working like a charm. Sure it has its quirks and the battery isn't all that friendly anymore. But it really does anything perfect that is still needs to and I can use it without any issues on a daily basis.

I don't like tossing out stuff that isn't broken at all. This laptop surely is not broken as yet, but because 'the support' is ending, that will mean that it won't get its newest security updates and will deteriorate very fast. While I am using this for normal stuff with some Hive and some crypto and also some work on there, this just has to be a safe device to use. And without support....it quickly will not anymore.

So even though you always very gentle with this fragile piece of equipment carrying it around in puffbags and so so it doesn't get damaged...in the end it doesn't really matter. After an X amount of years, 'they' want you to get a new one...GRRRRRRRRR

Now I have briefly taken a look on the big wide world of interwebz and I can tell you right now: these guys haven't gotten any cheaper than when I bought this one 7.5 years ago. And that is the understatement of the century, what an amount of cash you have to put down for something that (I'm gonna say it again) isn't broken.

I have until October to get this going. Luckily there is still some time to be pissed about it before I barge into a computer shop. I surely will check this time what the expected time for the provided support will be this time..

Hmmmm
/ends rant and goes back to normal mode

In economics and industrial design, planned obsolescence (also called built-in obsolescence or premature obsolescence) is the concept of policies planning or designing a product with an artificially limited useful life or a purposely frail design, so that it becomes obsolete after a certain predetermined period of time upon which it decrementally functions or suddenly ceases to function, or might be perceived as unfashionable. The rationale behind this strategy is to generate long-term sales volume by reducing the time between repeat purchases (referred to as "shortening the replacement cycle"). It is the deliberate shortening of the lifespan of a product to force people to purchase functional replacements.

This is the concept you must rage against

Yup exactly this and I HATE it. Its all for the company numbers not for the consumer experience

Can feel your pain! Although I must say, a couple of years ago I retired my +- 10 year old laptop that was still functional... and after I got the replacement I wondered how I was still using the old one! The change in speed and the amount of time I won was absolutely insane. If you indeed have to change, hope you get the same good surprise! ;) !BBH

Ow I surely believe so. I guess once I head yo the new one it will be like and eye opener. But just the fact now that I am forced into it..that I really hate

You should try some of the open source and Linux software! It takes a little bit to get used to it but there are some fantastic options for that and plenty of user support.

The deadline annoys me as well, so that means I need to get away from windows that much faster!
