Greetings everyone,
I hope that all of you are doing well. Supposedly I was about to publish this last night but I fell asleep. Yesterday I went somewhere to buy fresh cassava from a random friend on Facebook. Way back before in the area where I lived most of my family used to plant cassava but as time went by they stopped planting them so as I'm craving some cassava recipes so I decided to buy from somebody.
The person I bought cassava from I met at the mall where we both work years ago and this is the first time I will go to their house because I will buy cassava from her so it will be difficult to find their house. My hubby and I waited for almost half an hour on the road because she said she would pick us up because we still had to enter an alley and we didn't know where it was. We went there at almost 5 o'clock and at that time we have to feed our livestock at home already so after we meet she ask if she could buy fish first at the market because she was sent by her mother to do so. So since we are also in a hurry I let her ride our motorcycle to send her to the fish market before we head to their home.
When we arrived there she told me that the cassava is still on their farm and not yet harvested 😓. Even if we are in a hurry I agreed to go to the farm and leave Carlos and Lucas outside their house to get the cassava. At first, she said it wasn't that far but when we went - it was far and we still had to cross the hill in the picture and passed the rocky path with the large grass several times.
Since I already said yes I walk with her patiently for 10 minutes and even broke my sleepers while walking to the farm and unluckily when we arrive no one was there so we waited for another minute and her mother arrived. We get inside the farm and started to pull out the cassava plants.
They asked me how many kilos I would like to buy and said it was just only 1 kilo. The mother was friendly and a bit talkative so I started to worry because my intention of buying just a kilo of cassava will take time to finish. Then she started telling me how they get this farm and also tells me a story about cooking cassava. I felt amazed but worried that somebody is waiting for me because we still have to do important things at home. They keep pulling and so I decided to help and told them again that they harvested too much already and they answered me 'it's ok because they wanted to cook cassava too'.
I was so shy about interrupting what they are doing so I say to myself that hopefully, somebody at the house would think of feeding the animals already because we went home so late. When it started to get dark they realise to go home already and I was so happy.
The harvesting took almost one hour and they harvested more than 10 kilos so I helped to carry some going home. After we arrived at their house the mother weight the cassava and ask again how many kilos I like and because it was too much I decided to just take 2 kilos and then she weighed 5 kilos and bargained at me to take the 5 kilos and only paid 4 kilos. I was shocked! It's funny I planned to buy only 1 kilo and they let me do more things? I was a little bit mad so I answered that I don't need much of that cassava at home and I only need a few. Luckily my friend told her mom to just give me extra because I also do a part in harvesting and instead she want me to pay the 5 kilos in total she charge me 2 kilos and gave me the 3 kilos for free and even told me she will give it to me as Christmas present. Haha, funny, Christmas was still far 😂!
After I receive the cassava and paid we immediately went home so worried about the animals but fortunately father already fed them all. I was catching the sundown because it was too hot to travel in the early afternoon that's why we went there late only if I know that it would happen to us that day I should go there earlier.
Even though that's what happened with my purchase, I'm also happy because I also have three kilos for free so now I'm thinking about what delicious recipe I can cook with it. Do you have any suggestions?
Kalingaw. Gipa hatod pas mercado, gipa lakaw, gipa harvest, gi baligyaan pag daghan. 😂 Filipinos are always too polite to a fault. Lisud kaayo mustorya kay lage maikog pero ang kahasol intawn. 🤣
Hahah gane ba, wa jud ko kasabot sa akong ge bati ana timma 🤣. Pero lage kay ma ekog ta cge nalang uyy what is Pinoy 😆.
People are strange!
Yeah, very strange 😔.
Wow what a funny story... It's hard to be polite sometimes when people take their time and then she tried to get you to take more! I have no idea what to do with cassava but am interested in your recipes for sure!
Yes, that was a really funny experience. Maybe I'll just make a steam cake @riverflows I'm gonna share it here soon.
You are such a good cook!
Thank you so much for the appreciation 🥰.
I crown you the Queen of Patience & Tolerance.
Please, would you delight in wearing this crown?
I cannot fathom scenarios like these.
I am happy you took it all so well!🤣Hello @luckylaica
Haha, you're so sweet. I'll be happy to wear that Camille. That's really how life is and you know we Filipinos are that strange 😆.
Thank you for checking on me. I hope you are doing well.
😍
Typical Filipino. Duol ra nya baling layua di hahahahha
These tubers are so fresh. I planted some but unfortunately, they got spoilt. I will try again next year
Yes, most of them are already mature because of the duration from which they are planted some are already spoiled too because they are harvested very late.
I'm really intrigued by your patience to stay through the whole process of harvesting, I could never 😄
I'd like to see what recipes you come up with. We eat food made from cassava in Nigeria but I've never even held raw cassava before. I only buy food already produced from cassava. Like garri for example, it is made by grinding the cassava and frying. We eat garri in several ways here.
Hehe, I started to be as patient so I just kept going because I'm already there. Thank you for your suggestion about what you say about fried cassava, we also do that here but only sometimes because some tell us to be careful when cooking cassava because sometimes it is also poisonous. I'll be sharing it here when I'm done cooking the cassava. 🙂
Thank you for dropping by and have a good day!
Grabeha gud ana sis. Haha
Pero maayo pud coz naa free 3kg bisag daghan pa giagian. Haha
Gane sis maayo nlang jud, pungot jud ko samot ug wala ba 😂
I am sorry for what you experienced but I enjoyed reading your post very much 😉. You are very patient person.
That's great! I've come to enjoy Cassava recently! I don't know any good recipes with it but we put it in soups I think. I will have to ask my wife what she does with it exactly!
That's definitely a difficult experience to wait long then have to walk and cut the stuff on your own! At least you got 3 kilos out of the deal!
