Hey everyone!
I am back again with my short talk before bed. I am trying to make a habit to journal online before I go to bed.. My insomnia is getting a bit out of hand and I am trying my best to switch it at some point. Today I managed to get several things done so that would remove a bit of burden for me to stayed up late. Hopefully, within a few days, I can go back to regular human sleep cycle.
Lately, I have been obsessed with budgeting. What draws me into the budgeting world again is that because I want to have more days with Starbucks and not going broke. I scribbled some expenses and noticed that I have the budget to get Starbucks at least twice a week. It's an okay number for me because I know, that is the expensive habit to get into.
When I scribbled my budget, I also notice that I still could get a great quality of life with my current financial situation. I had things worse before but suddenly, I became a bit afraid of living less. But this year taught me again that sometimes, more doesn't mean happiness or satisfaction.I want to go back to minimalism budget.
Having money is great but when we don't know how to manage it, that becomes a ticking bomb. There are many financial lessons I learned this year that makes me confident that I have more matured when it comes to money. I learned more to have patience and prioritize quality over quantity. This year, I want to understand more how people budget their money and how I can improve my budgeting method.
So in my quest to do some compare and contrast, I asked around my peers on how they budget their money. Most of the answers are advising me to use an app to track my expenses. But personally, that doesn't work. So what I use is just a book with pen and paper. I don't know how many people are still doing it these days but I am doing it that way.
When it comes to financial budgeting app; it's like out of sight, out of mind. So that's is also another reason why I prefer a notebook and a pen. With a paper and pen, I can also save receipts inside of it and just clip the receipt inside. Though many things are digitized, somethings will remain the same from me such as this money budgeting. It's always going to be an old fashioned paper and pen.
Now, I am curious. Do you use app to track your finances?

I also use a pen and paper. It's easier for me to analyse and see what my expenses are.
Same! it's very much easier to use it. App just doesn't really work for me cause a lot of them are not that too intuitive in terms of the design and too complicated.
Love seeing this! Pen and paper for the win lol
Our best budgeting is more geared to Americans unfortunately. We use a single credit card for everything and all of our expenses go onto that except the big stuff like the mortgage and car payments. All else goes on the card except for some things we pay cash for at a small local business. We aren’t the best at budgeting because we can afford to spend a little bit we are very frugal and are always looking to save money and make deals so I think that’s how it works out for us. We had to spend a few thousand dollars on the kitchen to improve it and we almost had a heart attack spending that lol.
Keeping it on the single card is easy to track what we are spending. We pay off the card every month so we get lots of points to use for things which is a decent help in the end.
I don’t know if a similar situation would be possible where you live but doing things in excel or something similar is pretty handy. We use that at the end of the year to see what we spent on what and where we can improve a bit.
