Reflecting on January: Reviewing Progress & Making New Plans

New Month, New Goals !

I can not believe January flies like that. I suppose I’ve been enjoying my resting time quite a lot and taking care of my family. For the last couple of years, I recall January has always been the time for me rekindling my relationship with my family and a fun time catching up with my cousins and other family members who mostly ask me about the places I had been and the things I’ve been doing. I even get to see my niece and nephew growing older and it’s pretty bizarre. Meanwhile, I am only twenty five and it feels just like nineteen. I also saw many of my childhood friends and even the younger ones getting married one by one and having children. Well, I am definitely not feeling like I missed out but it’s just bizarre that my teen just flashes right before my eyes. My biggest regret from my early twenties is that I worried excessively about unimportant matters. In the end, I learned that worrying is very unproductive and I am slowly coming out of it. That’s why I am now worry-free and focusing on what matters that will bring progress into my life. I recently like the idea of setting goals and reviewing them. Though I don’t always achieve them, the goals that I wrote down will happen in one way or another. Some of them certainly take time and some happen right away. For example, this January for my yearly goal I wrote that I will be reading a book every month, taking a cultural trip, photography course and watching more movies. Eventually, some of those two already happened and will happen in the coming future. I certainly haven't made a monthly goal yet since January was a bit hectic but it’s time that now I am making a monthly goal that’s achievable. This year, I also want to make some hive goals as well. So you will see below that I will divide my personal and my hive goals! Want to know what I’ll be up to this month and keep me accountable? Follow along my journey.

Personal Goals

As you see, I’ve been consistently reading one book a week. It poses a challenge itself especially when I am on the move. This month, my personal goal remains the same with a few additions. I don’t really make big personal goals as this month I will be on the move quite a bit again. But some of my key 2023 is definitely integrated into my goals.

  • Consistently reading a book once a week.
  • Doing my taxes properly and setting up another retirement funds account.
  • Meditating at least 30 minutes.
  • Fixing my sleep (I am reminded of @cmplxty who talked about his biphasic sleep!) and realized that my january sleep is messed up!
  • Starting a course on digital marketing.
  • Getting back into society and not staying under the rock or isolating myself.

The last part of my personal goal is something a bit challenging. I feel so disconnected about the world around me and stayed in my own buble where it’s all about crypto, crypto and crypto. I made some attempts in the past to get out of my own buble and sort of succeed but I realized just cause I spent my whole teenage years in crypto, traveling and being a geek, keeping up with the latest trends and what people are interested in was quite challenging. So, I am making more effort this year to be more sociable and approachable.

Hive goals

From my latest assessments, there are some things that I could improve on my journey on Hive. It has become a big part of my life and most of my time is spent here. However, I usually don’t dedicate any allocated time which often makes me wander too much, reading, scrolling and curating without really setting a dedicated time. This actually is pretty bad because my progress wasn’t really measured and so are the communities I manage. With Hive, I have got my hands full switching from more than two communities with big subscribers to it like movies on hive, pets and even book club. Outside those, I work on lovesniper, OCD, and OCD curations. On top of those, my own blog is also there which is something I also enjoy doing. So, that’s why I want to make some monthly hive goals because it just makes it easier to measure and check on my progress. Here are some of my February goals

  • Adding more collaboration opportunity for Hivebookclub and possibly Hive Pets
  • Possibly organizing more contest and engagement on Hive Book Club
  • Write a blog daily (I suck at consistency lately )
  • Savings HBD daily for full february
  • Exploring more tokens on hive and its utilities
  • Increasing my HPUD delegation for March at the moment, it’s only 250HP with 10HP powered up to the lucky winner. I noticed that this has helped mostly new hivers grow and I love reading success stories about people who made it out of minnow!
  • Experimenting with keeping my voting power below 20% !
  • Use @liketu more! I find it fun commenting on liketu but once again, sometimes I suck with being consistent as I use peakd most of the time and it’s easier for curating and other things. But since I discovered the convenience of the side-to-side layout, it’s amazing. Anyone should really consider giving it a try!

I look forward to reviewing them again next month. I hope I can crush all these goals because with what I have going on, all things considered they are pretty doable to do and align with my yearly goal. Do you have monthly goals or even hive goals for February?

Thank you for sharing your experiences in the journey of life's ups and downs during January and it passed into memories, lessons and experiences for the future.

Meditation and nerds, it looks so good for our mentality and I really like the routine, I usually work out in the afternoon, there's a football field here. So, in the afternoon we exercised together for that to be us to stay healthy.

The goal you will achieve in February seems to be good, in terms of investment planning, I also think to save HBD, maybe something good will make HBD to the moon, I will save it.

hahaha yeah meditation is cool and helped a lot in the past for me. I hope the same this year too. Saving in HBD is a great way to grow it too, you get 20% APR at the same time. So, it's always nice to have some sizeable amount on it.

I haven't made any goals last January since all I want is to finish all the tasks given to me both at the university and at home. Well, I could say that my January is quite hectic and tiring. On the other hand, it was fun because I can feel my improvements in my field. I'll try to set goals for this month. Thanks for giving me an idea, btw.

I hope you can finish your task soon. My January is also quite hectic and a bit exhausting even when I seem to be relaxing I have to take care of my dads too. It would be awesome to read you plans too!

You’re only 25?! Wow, you’re so very mature for your age.

I also need to get back to my meditation habit. I have this weird habit of abandoning the habits that are very beneficial for me 🙈

😅 I heard that a lot but it's probably just life molding me this way. I abandoned my meditation habit quite a while and realized I have to get back to it just cause now, my mind is buzzing and I have so much to do. That practice used to help me a lot and I hope it will have the same effects these days.

Yes, meditation can do miracles. Same here, my mind seems a bit scattered and getting back into this habit would do me a world of good. Not sure why I’m resisting so much 😂

‘Being a nerd’ like you said, should really be considered a great compliment and it put you in the right places at the very young age. I’m sure the future you will thank you for this 💙

Sleep, I have had problems with that since I got older, lol. Like I sleep less , 6hrs is already fine and eight hrs? Happened only once in a blue moon.

Oh, you have a lot on your plate when it comes on Hive! How you managed all those? I here can't even manage to write a daily blog.

Last time I checked, I sleep quite a bit and it was not that refreshing. I am all about sleeping 6 hours/day and maybe less. After all, I believe that it's about the sleep quality more than the quantity tbh. I don't know how I manage that but it's been like that for almost 5 and moving to 6 years now haha.

Haha, never knew there was a ranting group! I might have to add some content ;)

Good luck with the goals. I just started meditating again and I definitely recommend that if you can, so I'll continue that. No other particular goals for me, aside from creating everyday, more general exercise and activities out and about, plus getting involved more on Hive!

More general exercises is something I've been doing and stretching. I am very bad with it lately but will start again soon. Also yeah! there's ranting community and it's one that I enjoy writing in and interacting. Definitely looking forward to your post in the community 😊

Experimenting with keeping my voting power below 20%

What's the thinking with your VP? I thought it was best to keep it a bit higher, so am interested in your experiment!

It's something on my mind as well and I wonder if my curation will be getting quite a hit. But for all I know, I get to vote a lot of content and people, which is also good on the social side. So, I am looking forward to this experiment result as well.

Oh my God Mac! And yet you say that's not enough goals? Hahaha I'd be dead with a quarter of that 🥹 How do you get so much done at once on so many projects? By the way, I love the retirement fund thing, it's the best of all plans, that and meditating. I know many seniors going through a lot of work because they never thought about retirement 🥺.

I also consider that of the personal goals the last one, socializing more is the hardest for me, I set it too, but it's past January and I just went to work and hived around here, zero socializing, just work and extreme tiredness with migraine after that 🫠.

I guess it's normal too bad I'm not 25 like you 🥲, the thing is at my 25 I don't think I would have been able to handle that much either 😅😅.

I love it all! You are such an inspiration @macchiata, a determined, hard working, focused on what you should. 👏👏

By the way, loved the banners and the images, I don't feel so alone in the avatar world anymore 😅.

😄 I have no idea really. It just happens that way and there are days when I am barely meeting what I should be doing. Some rest days are needed and I also throw in travel here and there which just add even more challenge. But that's just what I love, constant novelties and something new. I'd be dead bored if my life was so mundane and not challenging at all. Socializing remains my goal and I hope I don't run out more energy haha

Pertaining to your last two points... I have been recommended "Show Your Work!: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Getting Discovered" by Austin Kleon as a great way to re-frame marketing yourself and while I haven't read it (yet), I thought perhaps you'd also like to note it down as something to check out.

I heard about it but haven't checked it. Will do and put them on my list 😄 for me to check out this year. My list have grown a bit and I appreciate that you're sharing that book. Afaik he's pretty popular these days as I often heard his name mentioned in podcasts too.

Yeah, I've definitely seen the title tossed around in a few youtube/podcasts that I've been listening to so it's a pretty popular title it seems.

Just added that book to my list too, thanks for the tip!

It's supposed to be really good! Glad to give a recommendation 😃

You have some really strange goals, but I didn't expect anything less than that... 😃 May I suggest a solution for one of your goals?

Getting back into society and not staying under the rock or isolating myself.

Except that I don't really agree with you who is "living under the rock", you or them... 😃 The solution for that problem is to create a HIVE Meetup in your surrounding... In that way you would cover both sides, be sociable and keep in "crypto talk" 😂🤣 One good HiveFest would be a perfect solution... 😃

Experimenting with keeping my voting power below 20% !

Wait, what? I thought that I read this wrong, but I checked your account and you really keep your VP low... Is there a secret agenda behind that? I'm curious to know more... :)

Good luck with your goals and wish you the best!

😄 I just feel so disconnected with other people esp people my age. So, that's why I am so under the rock haha. I usually do a small Hive meet up but when I am in Bali, there are a few users from there and hopefully this year, Hivefest would be in easier place to travel as I would love to check it out.

I am experimenting the difference of curation earning when I have it below 20% and also above 50%. I think that with keeping it below 20% that just means, I vote a lot of content on hive 😁 been enjoying that lately and discover new authors and reads from all nooks and crannies part of hive. Saving HBD is inspired by you actually. Just like the comment I left to your post the other day.

Saving HBD is inspired by you actually.

Darn! I'm trying to push Hive Power over HBD, and people take the opposite from my posts. WTH? 😂 🤣

Have a great week and go out for a coffee! 😜

Reading a book once every quarter is already a big achievement for me.😅I have high admiration to people who can do it every week.😍

Love the personal goals! 🔥

😂 It's not easy but making time for it and planning things out was the thing for me. Anyway, what are your goals this February?

Wow amazing goal you have set

This is great. Sometimes I close my eyes to my friends. Sometimes they just make me feel useless. Each one of us has a purpose to live. So I focus on mine.

huh I guess.

Oh man keeping your voting power below 20%? Hahaha I get nervous when mine is below 90%! Lol. I wonder if I would earn more curation rewards if I spent it a lot more or not. Hard to say! Lol.

These are some good goals but it’s also important to not bite off more than you can chew, a saying from when I was a kid. Don’t get involved in too many things and stress yourself out! It’s not good but I know that it’s fun and good to get involved in many different things. Just try to find a balance is what I’m saying.

The biphasic sleep was tough! I ended up going to sleep really early last night, two hours before normal and it felt great. I needed it too because today was a busy day of work! 10.5 hours of working constantly, it felt good but it was tiring lol.

Keep up the good work! It’s great to get out of your bubble and experience different stuff and reconnect a little bit with old friends and family!

I was wondering about that too. I would have thought there would be diminishing returns if it gets lower. I try and keep mine around 80%

I wonder too and I checked that my curation APR is not actually that bad. It still hovers around 9% so I am wondering if it will get lower as I vote more people.

I've been doing all theses for 5 years now. Before all those, there were other communities, other initiatives and the things I do are often a lot just in different kinds and activities. For some reason, I always find myself enjoying building communities around here 😁.

I can imagine getting a little sleep and having to work a lot. I am sure it's not that fun. Anyhow, you should talk about your biphasic sleep experience.

Reading your post, I think I would have to breakdown my personal goals into smaller ones in order to achieve them.
