Beta release is right around the corner and this post talks about the ARENA gameplay that will be the highlight of the Beta Gameplay.
ARENA is our Player vs Player, turn based, active gameplay that will mark the Beta launch of MuTerra.
TL;DR
For ARENA, players start by selecting the tamer they want to play with and then carefully handpick 20 mutees to take with them into battle. Once the team has been prepared, the player chooses the league he/she wants to fight in and then the fight begins! Various mutee abilities are used to fight off against each other and the one that survives till the end wins!

NOTE : The screens and mutee images below are placeholders we used to assist us back-end coding. The final front end is still in works and will be at a whole new level with better designs and amazing UI for great user experience on release.
TEAM FORMATION
This is a pre-battle strategy phase where you need to prepare for any type of battle rules and terrain that can be thrown at you at random
There's no time restriction in this phase. Players can take their time selecting the best tamer and mutees they'd like to take into ARENA.
1. TAMER SELECTION
As soon as you enter ARENA, you'll be asked to choose a tamer. Tamers can play a very important role in ARENA battles. Some of them are able to boost specific mutee stats which can you give you that extra push you need to win. So choose wisely.
Golden Tamers give you the option to decide their additional abilities which can improve your chances to win in battles. You'll understand more about it in the post that explains the different abilities of mutees.
We will be introducing 6 new tamers for ARENA, giving players more Tamer options to choose from and coming up with different strategies using the new tamers' abilities.
Uncommon : JAY & AVA
Rare : RIYA & SIYA
Epic : SACHIN
Legendary : ELAN

2. MUTEE SELECTION
As soon as you are done selecting the tamer you want to play with, you'll be directed to the next page where you'll be asked to select a minimum of 5 mutees and a maximum of 20 mutees.
The mutees you select here can become the deciding factor whether you emerge victorious or face defeat in ARENA battles.
While selecting your mutees you should think about the following things -
- Mutee Level : Higher level = better stats = higher defense and damage.
- Mutee Size : Bigger size = higher damage.
- Mutee Stamina : More stamina = more attacks
- Mutee Element of your opponent and the Terrain on which the battle will happen : Perhaps the most important aspect of your battle strategy. More on this in the post dealing with battle formula and abilities.
We will be introducing 21 new mutees for ARENA, giving players options to choose from and making the game more strategic and competitive.
Common : 5 Small Sized Mutees
Uncommon : 3 Small and 2 Medium Sized Mutees
Rare : 5 Medium Sized Mutees
Epic : 3 Large Sized Mutees
Legendary : 1 Large and 1 Very Large Sized Mutees
Mythical : 1 Very Large Sized Mutees

LEAGUE SELECTION
Once the players have formed their team consisting of 1 tamer and 5 to 20 mutees, they will be allowed to enter the Arena. Arena is divided into 6 different leagues ranging from rookie league to pro league and each league has different parameters.
Here are the parameters you'll find in each league :
- Maximum Level of Mutee and Tamer : This caps the level of your mutees and tamers. So if you try to bring a level 100 mutee in rookie league, it will be lowered down to level 5.
- Minimum MUT staked : In order to enter a league, you'll need to have a specified amount of MUT staked. This amount gets bigger for higher leagues.
- Maximum Level of ability : Each ability can be levelled up. Your league decides the level cap.
- Required Victory Points : In addition to the staked MUT, you also need to have a minimum amount of victory point to become eligible for a league.
- Victory Point Reward : These are the points given to the winner of a battle
- Victory Point Penalty : These are the points deducted from the loser of a battle
- Allowed Mutees : The number of mutees allowed in a battle. Pro league allows 5 vs 5 mutee battle. The most challenging of all leagues!
Two other things to know about ARENA battles -
- It costs 5 tamer stamina to battle.
- Players will be asked to bet a certain amount of MUT on themselves coming out as victors. This has been put to avoid certain exploits. Once the player base is big enough, we will consider removing this.
Once you hit the BATTLE button, the battle phase begins! Time restrictions will be in place and you'll have to quickly choose the best mutee out of the shortlisted ones to fight with.

There is a video. It's just a place holder for now as we are working on the back end. But we will show it in the next post which will be all about the battle screens.
Sound really good. I guess the new muttees are not for free, but need to be caught in Muterra World. At least hope it is that way.
Tamers I guess need to be bought. Would be cool later on, to find additional tamers in Muterra World as part of quests. Can be really difficult ones, to support players who invest time and money in the game.

Since ARENA is going to be a PvP game, we need to cater to players who prefer playing just that. Forcing them to play WORLD just to get mutees for ARENA can push them away from the game.
Another point to note here is that currently only those mutees are available that were in MALDIVES packs. So new players wouldn't be able to find an entry point in ARENA.
Same goes for tamers. Players who would like to have better and stronger tamers for ARENA wouldn't have any other option except from buying it from others.
Considering all this, we will bring out ARENA packs for both tamers and mutees so that new players don't find it difficult to get their hands on cards that they can use to play the game. And it will also help us generate revenue to keep building the game.
As for catching mutees, we have 70 wild mutees that a player can cage inside the game. Since their level, rarity and sizes will be vary, having better mutees in your party will make it a bit easier to cage them.

So we will be able to use MALDIVES, WILD and ARENA mutees in Arena, right?
Yes. Maldives mutees will be very useful in game modes that allow only very small mutees.
