I can remember that longing being pushed aside at a time in my life, although, the beach was far, far away at the time. There was no sense in longing for something that I couldn't have.
And then, it came back with a vengeance!
I didn't understand the cowboy at first, but, this was in Mexico, and called a Vaquero.
Vaqueros were proverbial cowboys—rough, hard-working mestizos who were hired by the criollo Caballeros to drive cattle between New Mexico and Mexico City, and later between Texas and Mexico City. The title, though denoting a separate social class, is similar to caballero, and is a mark of pride.
