Gialova in Messinia is a small seaside settlement with a lovely sandy beach and two streets with all the businesses that you might desire during your vacation. Traditional taverns, modern restaurants, local products and coffee shops, they are all crammed into a few square meters of coastline. A few minutes are more than enough to see everything but you most probably would not want to leave, once you get there :)
This little place is gifted with a wonderful natural scenery on the one hand and neighbouring with one of the most luxury and huge hotels in Greece on the other, that skyrocketed the value of the land and of course, the prices :)
So I wouldn't recommend it for low budget vacation but it is definitely worth it if you can afford it (or if you have ways to keep your expenses low even in overpriced places).
The name is probably coming from the mixture of a Greek and a Turkish word but I have also read that "jalova" means "barren" in Serbian. Is that correct @bil.prag ?
Have you met a shy chef? I haven't. They all seem to be very eager to show off their work and themselves :)
Actually (if I may invent a new word) I would call this place as a beach-mall :)
I hope it makes sense, like a shopping mall on the beach! You swim, go for a coffee under the trees of the coffee shop, swim some more, go grab a bite and so on all day long. Isn't that great?
And since everything here has a price, this post goes to #MarketFriday, initiated by @dswigle! A very summerish version, I might add :)

yap Jalov (Jalova) is an old Serbian word. Jalova zemlja would be barren land
Yes, that's what I have read!
Thank you for confirming :)

Man this place looks amazing
It is really great :)
Honestly, I think you're living in one of the beautiful countries on Earth. There are many aspects to consider, but I would be happy moving in Greece. Yeah 😕...with that being said, I now remain only with the desire to visit it again...
I guess you had a good time at Thassos :)
I wish you many more wonderful trips and why not, a move! You are not so far away!
Yes, we did! We booked a really nice apart-hotel for 7 nights but ended up staying 10. We did a lot of things like renting a buggy and visit all the villages up in the mountains. Also we rented a boat for one day and it was amazing. We rented as well an off road car and went on top of the island, Ipsarium peak. It was nice, the whole adventure.
But yes, we actually consider to buy a house maybe in the next years and if not moving, at least staying there for the summer. Hopefully we can do that!
I really believe Greece is beautiful! Thank you, I wonder what we'll see in Greece next time! 😍
