Hello everyone! Hope you have a nice and chill end of the week! 🌼
While if we take a look at the calendar and see that theoretically speaking, winter has passed, things are at the opposite pole while looking outside the window. So what better way to force the arrival of spring if not by sharing a bunch of memories I created in the past summer while attending a one of a kind market?
Long story short, Sibiu is full of events during the summer. There is not a single day without plenty of events being held, so the single thing you need is the time to catch up with everything because you won't realize how fast the season passes if you keep yourself busy with all the shows, exhibitions, festivals, markets, concerts and more, held in the 3 months of summer.
The event I attended together with my boyfriend and my mother, was called "Flori pe scări" (EN: Flowers on stairs) and it was going to last just 3 days, summing up lots of activities that people could enjoy, starting with the common exhibitions, to flowers and all kind of floral decorations to purchase, but also the possibility to bring a flower which you could switch with a different one from the market, and many more.
Even though at first it didn't seem like a good idea due to the crowd which was either going up or down the stairs and made you unable to notice the flowers there also being an undergoing photoshoot for a newly married couple, we still decided to go all the way down through the passage and see what's everything about since I was never attending something similar in the past.
Actually, the main reason behind the whole concept was to promote a less popular passage in the center of Sibiu which very few people know about because as popular those narrow streets are, as many are left behind and barely discovered by tourists while they only focus on the most popular ones.
The actual flowers that you could find on the stairs (making a quick reference to the name of the event) weren't as many as you could find in the market itself, but I still enjoyed how the organizers thought about everything because once every few stairs down you could notice a frame made of natural flowers with a small informative panel next to it that was sharing lots of curious things about the species you could find presented in the framed piece of nature.
I think it's obvious that no one needs a lot of knowledge to recognize some of the most common flower species, but when you also get to read some interesting aspects about them I think it's a win-win situation because it's important to never stop learning something new.
As soon as we finished going down the stairs, we were able to discover the flowers in a different form, namely through various objects built entirely from flowers which created a really peaceful and relaxing atmosphere throughout the market. There were actually quite a few guys hanging out on the terraces nearby, so bringing a little piece of nature right in the middle of urban life, is definitely a cool thing to enjoy on a hot day of summer.
Every single ornament made of flowers had its own story and stirred my interest, but the one that I liked the most was the drums which created a great mix between music and nature - yet two things very important in my life.
Anyway, as mentioned at the beginning of this post, the market wasn't limited to flowers only but actually brought together lots of things from different fields that either had flowers in their composition or part of their design.
So along with the common flower pots that perhaps anyone expected to see, there were also books about flowers, terrariums with plants, ornaments based on lichens, but also bookmarks, and jewelry items with flowers in their design. At first, we thought about buying a flower pot to add to my little collection of flowers from home but since the event was held quite on a distance from the place where we are living, we had to give up on this thought knowing how much time we would spend on the road and that it might become tiring for both us and the flower to be carried through heavy sun for many minutes in a row until it will rest in a new home.
The terrariums and ornaments based on lichens are a cool and modern thing to have at home and both are actually quite popular in Romania so as much as I enjoyed starring at them, I had to give up on this idea as well because I already have both at home.
However, the one that I regret not buying was the bookmark with the mountains in a shape of a leaf that could go along very well with the many books I have in my library. The thing that kept me away from purchasing one was that it seemed quite expensive on a first thought (30 RON / 6.09 EUR per piece), but now thinking about how much work is being done for every single object that is part of the market, I think it would worth every single penny.
Imagine that when we arrived at the market, there were still people working on the big ornaments made of flowers so spending so much time building these and then dismantling everything after just 3 days... It's a lot of work to be done for very little profit to earn because I didn't see a lot of people interested in the market other than looking and then walking away.
Anyway, another thing that you could find in this one-of-a-kind market and which is classed as my favorite item from that event was represented by the framed pictures that had flowers as the main theme. Every single one I've seen was absolutely gorgeous and seemed like a great pick for those who were looking for some new art to hang on the walls, but again, none of them had a lot of success with the clients. However, if I'd have to pick only one, then no doubt I'll go 100% for the one with the lips which shares so much through a single painting! 💚
Even though I'm not sure my post qualifies for the #MarketFriday kind of blog post held by @dswigle because I didn't purchase anything from the market, I'd still like to give it a try and perhaps share an idea for some people out there who have the possibility to bring a small part of nature in the middle of the urban life.

The initiative "flowers on stairs" is so nice :) It looks beautiful in the picturesque streets, like in Greece or something :) Is it a tradition or was it just a spontaneous idea that summer?
I hope it will turn in some sort of tradition but for now it was just a spontaneous event held to promote that passage which is not very popular even if it's in the center of the city, lol. 😁
Anyway, I do feel the need of seeing more elements of nature even in the middle of the city, so I hope we will have more of that soon 🙂

You noticed right! The city is quite colorful and that's caused by all the houses and buildings which have mostly a different colour. No doubt it's a great way to mix that with the colorful paintings too!

What an interesting (and strange) concept to promote obscure streets to tourists. But I would also be curious to visit alleys with lovely flowers and amazing artwork.
There are lovely alleys too. There is actually a street called as being the most beautiful one from the whole city due to all the flowers surrounding it but also the medieval look :)
