It has been ages since I last participated in #marketfriday as I have lessened my going out due to my pregnancy incompetency. However, I decided I must try to go for this because my husband was actually helping out in this particular market in a depot house.
This market is called Pingmin Market. Pingmin means commoner in chinese mandarin so I guess it is inviting vendors to be selling food and things at a more affordable price. I have heard of this market during the covid lockdown when it was operating online but now it is organized to be a physical market at different locations at different times.
As you can see, it is a more Chinese-speaking community and it is also a pet-friendly market where pet owners are allowed to bring their pets along so long they are leashed.
There were many interesting stalls to see, ranging from food to crafts, to dog accesories and pet food. It is a non- halal market.
Upon reaching the location, we saw there were already many cars so finding a parking spot was not that easy as I took some rounds. Then we walked straight to my husband's booth, the one he was helping out a Russian lady who contacted to hire him. They sell cured meat, from salami to sausages to chicken wings, to wraps and sandwiches. We did buy some from them and boy, they were so delicious and tasty. His lady boss was also generous to let us have some samples to bring home with us.
The wraps I got from the booth my husband was managing.
There were some small chairs for the customers to sit and eat but there were not much so we needed to seize the place once the previous diners finished.
Let me show you around some stalls that I managed to take photos of. My friends who went earlier said it was very humid and hot in the day time but when I went in the evening, it was very windy and rather comfortable.
This roasted pork roulard was very interesting to me but I did not buy from them because the price wasn't that cheap.
Then there was a booth selling marshmallow ice-cream which was very tempting to me but I managed to resist the temptation because I need to watch my sugar level.
This is a grill stall selling meat on skewers but my husband was a bit put off with them because they used charcoal to cook in an enclosed space, how dangerous!
There is this chocolate stall selling Nama chocolate which is homemade ganache. They let us try and taste and my eldest son liked it so I bought a block of the sea salt chocolate back for RM15.
Next will be this macaron booth that of course my boys adored and my mum-in-law bought 6 pieces of it for them.
We also patronized a bagels booth where the vendors came all the way from Penang. My friends tried their jalapeno and cheese on the spot and kept raving about it.
Then there were some arts booth with drawings.
After that we came by an earrings stall.
Here is a pastry stall.
There were also live bands playing jazz music starting from 8pm.
After being in the crowded place, we made our way to the toilets and the boys got to run free!
A corgi on sale? Hahaha nah, its owner runs a booth selling pet food so he was sitting there nicely to advertise the booth. So lovely.
I could tell that my boys had a blast with their grandma while I also enjoyed walking around to see. Though, after that I needed to rest few days to recuperate.
Wow, I wish I could join in on the fun! The food, arts, and jewelry are some of my favorite things.
The place is huge too, right? Bersih dan cantik sangat! 😍
Do you happen to know how long the market has been operating?
Oh they have been in operations since covid lockdown but they change the locations of the market every month.
Owh, that's nice.
When you said pingmin means commoner, I really thought I would be seeing a rundown market but it turns out, it's a great and stylish one. I think they focus on startups or small or local shops and it's very nice. I found something similar in other countries too, helping local businesses.
That roasted pork made me crave for one! It's so perfect! And I was surprised of the marshmallow ice cream. First time hearing about it.
There's so much to see in this market! I wish I could go!
