Tick tick tick, it's the weekend. I hope you've got some cool plans lined up for the weekend? I plan to have a me-time weekend. I'll stay home, eat my favorite foods and fruits, rest, watch movies, and take my damn medications, arrghh!
How I hate this part but there's no skipping it because it's mandatory that I take them for my health's sake.
If only there was a way one could avoid getting sick, I'd love it because it's sickening to be sick, lol.
Okay, enough of my ranting 😅. So to start off the weekend, I went shopping at one of the popular markets in my city - Ahịa Ọhụrụ (New Market).
Anything and everything you need, you'll get them at Ahịa Ọhụrụ. From groceries, fresh produce (vegetables and fruits) to kitchen utensils, household items, bags, clothing materials and wears. Just name it and Ahia ọhụrụ got you covered, hehehe.
Each of these items have certain locations where they are mainly sold. Fruits, vegetables and other farm produce are sold at Highlife while School road is for personal care items, household items, bags etc. Now if you want better okirika wears or bend down select known as thrift wears, forward march to Ngwá road. But you go shine your eyes well well o, else you'll go home with clothes that may not be a good fit, lol.
So my shopping location was Highlife and School road sections, and I tell you prices of good are increasing by the day!
While preparing grocery list, do not make the mistake of using the previous prices because you'll be shocked at how they have doubled once you get to the market.
A bunch of plantain is sold between ₦2,500 to ₦5,000, some ₦7,000 too, depending on their sizes. I bargained and got a bunch for ₦2,000, $1.17. Cool, right? 😅
For yams, oh dear yams!, the price depends on the type and size too. You can get a tuber for ₦1,000, ₦3,000 and above. All depends on choice and purchasing power. I bought three tubers of ₦1,000 each, that's $1.80.
Crayfish, tomatoes, onions and palm oil are now the OG's, hehehe, very costly stuffs.
A painter of crayfish is ₦6,000 ($3.60)as of today. I bought half painter ₦2,800 ($1.68), leaving me with some few cents.
These tomatoes you see displayed goes for ₦1,000 each. The ones in the container are sold between ₦3,000 to ₦3,500 each. You can get them lower if you have a good bargaining power.
Now to onions. These ones in the tray where the vendor is picking are ₦500 each, the ones on the other tray are ₦1,000 each.
A 75cl bottle of palm oil is sold for ₦1900. Vegetable oil is ₦2,600 for same quantity. I got one bottle each.
Fresh pepper that was once costly is now the cheapest stuff in the market. That's demand and supply chain at work here.
Beans and rice is just at same price margin. A cup is ₦500 each, while half painter is ₦3,750 which is about $2.25. I bought the half painter which is nine cups. That's a good purchase as I've saved some few cents, hehehe.
Dear Stockfish, why have you decided to join these OGs in pressing our necks? You know our soups won't be so tasty without you. Imagine this small head costs ₦3,000, about $1.80. That's terrible!
Well I bought two heads for ₦5,500 that's about $3.27, hmmm.
I stopped by this vendor to get insecticide. I don't want to take chances with these creepy creatures, lol.
Aha! tote bags!. They were being auctioned so I couldn’t pass by without window, no open shopping, lol. Well I got one for myself 😅.
So that's how my shopping went today. See ya!

The market is indeed loaded but the prices of things are not friendly abeg. Makes me get scared of shopping 😂
My dear, it's really alarming how prices of these goods skyrocket. While going to the market these days, just get prepared for the unexpected, because the economy is getting worse by the day.
Have a pleasant weekend
My dear, nka dikwa serious o
Ka Chukwu mere anyi Ebere
Is this Ahia uhuru located in Abia state? I'm from Imo state and I'm not sure we have a market like this.
For the records we actually don't have yam of 3k in Lagos, the least most of the time starts from 4k
Yes, Ahịa Ọhụrụ is in Abịa State
"Lagos is flyover" nau so prices of goods should be up there, hehehe.
Thumbs up to you guys living there. I can't imagine how you manage to survive in this T-pain economy.
