WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT SKIN BLEACHING

in StemSociallast year

In recent years, the global beauty industry has witnessed a concerning trend which is the promotion and prevalence of skin bleaching products. Skin bleaching, also known as skin lightening or whitening, involves the use of chemicals or cosmetic procedures to lighten one's skin tone. Recently this practice has been on a rapid rise that it is alarming. Averagely 80 out of 100 in our society is under the skin bleaching routine and unknown to many of us, the harm it's doing to us is much more than the good we might think it is doing.

However, this practice raises serious health concerns and perpetuates harmful beauty standards. At the latter age, that's when the effect start showcasing which is quite dangerous ahead. Some of the health effects is one might later end up with some body illness. One of it is Cancer. One thing majority people is not aware is that skin bleaching products often contain harmful substances like hydroquinone, mercury, and steroids. Prolonged use of these chemicals can lead to adverse health effects, including skin irritation, allergic reactions, and skin thinning. Not only that but additionally, skin bleaching can disrupt the natural production of melanin, making the skin more susceptible to sun damage and skin cancers just like I said earlier.

One major reason which I will point that is to be attributed to the rapid rise of Skin bleaching is the fact that many people mindset about Skin colour has changed. What do I mean by that?Skin bleaching perpetuates the notion that lighter skin tones are superior and more desirable than darker ones. This reinforces harmful beauty standards, leading to self-esteem issues and a negative impact on mental health, especially for individuals with darker skin tones who may feel pressured to conform to society's narrow beauty ideals. I have seen people who with their dark skin, they look so beautiful but due to the societal pressure on them as the fact that lighter skin looks more appealing, they were forced to bleach their skin and then they end up less beautiful

Years back and even till date, skin bleaching is often linked to historical and cultural factors, where fair skin has been associated with notions of privilege and superiority. However, promoting such practices perpetuates discrimination based on skin color and perpetuates colonial legacies that have caused deep-rooted societal divisions.
The world is a diverse tapestry of cultures, ethnicities, and skin tones. Embracing one's natural skin color is an essential step toward promoting diversity and fostering inclusivity. Celebrating and accepting different skin tones encourages a more compassionate and understanding society.

Abstaining from skin bleaching can contribute to increased self-confidence and self-acceptance. No matter your skin colour, you can still look absolutely beautiful and handsome. Accepting and appreciating one's unique appearance can lead to improved mental well-being and a healthier body image.
It is high time our society stand against skin bleaching and we can use one of the powerful tool called media. Media plays a significant role in shaping beauty standards. By celebrating natural beauty and featuring diverse skin tones in advertisements, movies, and television shows, we can help redefine beauty ideals and foster a more inclusive perception of attractiveness.

I will suggest that Instead of resorting to harmful bleaching products, individuals can focus on adopting healthier skincare practices. Regularly using sunscreen, moisturizing, and maintaining a balanced diet can contribute to healthier and radiant skin without the need for harsh chemicals. Consumers can make a positive impact by supporting ethical and inclusive beauty brands that celebrate diversity and promote natural beauty. Choosing products that embrace diversity and do not endorse skin bleaching sends a powerful message to the beauty industry.

It was yesterday I heard the word "Funbact-A Yellow" when someone was referring to a person who had bleached her skin. Actually, from my personal study, most people who bleach their skin do it as a result of a lack of self-confidence. I was really angry to see a woman coming to the hospital with an almost fair child who was delivered black. I immediately chastised her and she replied that she would quit using it for the infant for now. The phrase "for now" meant she was only going to give it a pause.

Very well said. It is as result of lack of confidence which is very dangerous

Truly, the rate of bleaching is alarming. People just want to look beautiful without checking the consequences. Also, skin bleaching is responsible for kidney failure. Skin bleachers are providing more job opportunities for nephrologists!

It is really alarming
