What do you think about it ??
Are u thinking what if I stopped eating sugar and brushing my teeth properly.
No wonder I also used to think the same as you
But believe me, not in all cases can it be reversed, but in some instances, it might be
Ok, come, let's discuss
Do you know what cavities are?
It's aka "Dental Caries"
Imagine ur mouth is an ecosystem ( The house of Bacteria)
That lives in your mouth, and they also need a meal to survive and create a family. As soon as you start feeding yourself, you're feeding bacteria as well. They eat all the food which u like especially sugary ones. Which gets stuck in ur teeth. Like you love sugar, so do the bacteria.
Immediately starts breaking and procedure acid as a by-product.
Now this acid is really harmful, and it slowly starts dissolving the outermost layer of the tooth known as enamel, and starts eroding the enamel and leading to cavitation.
Did u know about this before?????
Now, as you neglect by,
- Not brushing properly
- Not flushing properly
- Overconsumption of sugary food
- Dry mouth
- Some medication
This worsens the scenario, and if untreated, cavitation progresses and may damage and involve the innermost layer of the teeth.
Can early-stage cavitation heal?
Of course, the good news comes here, cavitation gets reversed at a very early stage
The stage at demineralization is where enamel starts losing essential minerals, but with proper care remineralization and repair can be done.
- By application of fluoride
- A healthy diet with calcium and phosphorus, which support the enamel- repairing.
- Keeping mouth healthy and clean.
Cavities can not heal when?
Once the bacteria breaks through the enamel, then the decayed teeth will continue to spread deeper and deeper, affecting the inner portion of teeth dentin and pulp.
So, at this stage, only dentists can stop the cavitation either by
- Filling(Restoration)
- RCT(Root Canal Treatment)
- Extraction (Removal of teeth)
Conclusion
Hence, early-stage cavitation can be somewhat reversed with proper care
But, once it breaks the enamel, u will definitely need a dentist.
So visit your dentist every 6 months
Hope you guys learned something.
