10 Fascinating Facts About Bees

in StemSocial2 days ago

Recently, I read some amazing facts about bees and just had to share them with you. These little creatures are just incredible. Of course, I have always known how important they are to our ecosystem and that life without them is simply unimaginable but never knew how fascinating they really are.

1. What if bees disappeared?
We all know that bees are very much important in the pollination process, but what was really opening my eyes was how their disappearance would result in catastrophic consequences on food security and the environment!.

Irreplaceable to maintain the balance of nature.

2. Bees have five eyes.
Bees have two big compound eyes to detect shapes and colors, and three smaller ones that sense the light. Their vision is so much more advanced than what I would have imagined.

3. Bees dance to communicate.
I'd heard about the waggle dance before, but I never thought that it allows bees to provide each other with specific information on the food sources regarding direction, distance, and quality. it is amazing. Their teamwork is next level!

4. Bees Can Learn to Recognize Human Faces.
This one is really fascinating: bees can remember and recognize human faces. This, for a few in the insect world, further solidifies their greatness in my mind.
although I have heard of beekeepers who normally worked with bees without any protection and were never stung

5. Bees Are Faster Than Most Humans Can Run.
Bees can fly at speeds of up to 24 kilometers per hour, which is roughly 15 miles per hour. For their size, that's pretty fast!
For example if bees were the size of a human they would fly at an approximate speed of 280 km/h (174 mile/h).
This is a calculation made by AI, so I can't vouch for it.

6. Bees Can Count.
I knew bees were smart, but I hadn't realized they actually understand numbers and can count up to four.

7. Bees sleep.
This one made me smile-bees need their rest, just like us! It is amazing to think of them having breaks to recharge. Or maybe to take beauty nap.

8. Bees Communicate Using Vibrations.
Other than through dancing, bees also employ body vibrational movements, which signal their fellow bees messages concerning food as well as danger. Amazingly, they have worked out many means of communication

9. Some Unique Properties Of Bee Venom
The venom is composed of proteins, which assist in enhancing the circulation of blood and exerts anti-inflammatory activity. Little surprise it is used first in medicine and in skin care products

10. Bee Venom Forms A Natural Type Of Botox.
Speaking of skincare, bee venom can stimulate collagen production, reducing wrinkles and improving skin tone. Really, nature has the best remedies!

Though I have always appreciated the role bees play in our world, learning these facts has given me a new level of admiration for them. I hope you find these tidbits as fascinating as I did!
