Elon Musk's plan to colonize Mars.

I would like to see a self-sustaining colony like Elon Musk dreams of, but one thing is a scientific base that I believe is possible and in the case of Mars I am talking about perhaps four or six astronauts at most in a temporary stay that could be a year or more, after which they would return to their home on Earth, that would be a scientific base; A mining base would also work in a similar way, there would be a few humans who would control their robotic systems because obviously this type of mining facilities were going to work very automatically and with many robots to be able to do the work and in this way reduce the risk of humans having an accident but in the end after completing their mission or after completing their work they would return to the earth where they have their home.

And a colony is something very different, a colony at a minimum is no longer five or six or a few dozen people, at a minimum it would be hundreds of people with their families and who would not return to Earth except on vacation and who would consider Mars their home, so this self-sustainable thing, I would like Elon Musk to explain it because I haven't read anywhere how he plans to organize it, what they are going to live on, mining tourism.

Mars does not have unique extraordinary resources like this that appear from time to time in science fiction movies or superhero movies. It is metal, vibranium or these extraordinary things that appear, there are normal resources like those we find here on Earth, there may be gold, there may also be diamonds, it could be profitable perhaps if the transportation of goods between Mars and Earth is greatly reduced, perhaps it could be, because there are also calculations by Elon Musk more about how much it would cost to send tons of merchandise from one planet to another and it does lower prices a lot but we would have to see how the matter remains.

Because it is not a matter of just planting potatoes as we saw in the movie The Martian, they also have to sell products to bring products to the earth, exchange there has to be a trade and that is very complicated because right now there is no special natural resource on Mars, another thing is going to be the moon and the Moon can get supplies and resources for space factories in the environment, whether from the moon or from the Earth, because the moon is much closer, it is 384,000 km from us but Mars in the best of cases is about 54 million kilometers and at worst it is 400 million kilometers, so it is not the same.

On September 8 of last year, relatively recently, Elon published in would be carried out in the next launch window, that means that we could see a human stepping on the ground of Mars around the year 2029.

This Elon plan is within what the majority of scientists want and is compatible with the objectives of the Artemis program, the Artemis program also contemplates traveling to Mars. In reality, the only thing this plan would do is accelerate the objectives and redirect them instead of going to the moon to Mars here, well, but of course Elon's plan does not stop there, according to Elon, from the year 2029, the rate of flights would grow exponentially with the objective of building a self-sufficient city in about 20 years, nothing. more and also ended that statement by saying that the fact of being multiplanetary will enormously increase the probable duration of human consciousness evidently since we will have all our eggs literally and on a single planet.

What do you think of Elon Musk's plan.

The thing that will make Mars possible is the number of Starships that SpaceX will produce. They may only plan to send 5 in 2026, but by 2028 there could be anywhere between 20 and 100. That’s a lot of people and supplies that could go. The main criteria will be whether they land successfully in 2026, so hopefully it will go well.
