I once had a neighbor who looked so happy with his girlfriend, they acted all loved up every time they were seen together, but the problem was, this man brought different ladies to the house every time and I was just wondering why he would do that to someone he loves so much, more than the love he had for his partner, he also had a very high libido.
Libido is the biological requirement for sexual activities, it is most often expressed by seeking sexual behavior. The intensity of the behavior showcased varies amongst individuals over a particular time.
Sexuality in animals and humans is not just something we can easily describe, because it is a complex topic that can be approached from different perspectives, as it relies on the interplay between nervous, endocrine, and genetic factors, in humans on the other hand, sexual behavior is influenced practically by cultural settings, the one that requires dynamic behavioral adaptation. The neural structures engaged in sexual behavior can be found all through the nervous system, both in the central division and peripheral divisions.
Multimodal sexual stimuli can be linked with sensory processing that is linked with experiences aimed to trigger autonomic and proper motor responses, subjected to overwhelming cognitive control. Neural mechanisms that are responsible for arousal, desire, and orgasms are the same in both males and females, however, sexual responses amongst both genders differ.
There have been several neuroimaging studies that have aimed to shed new light on the underlying mechanisms that trigger this sexual behavior, after all the studies, some puzzles are still missing. But, it has been discovered that, partly, the difference in the sexual behavior between the male and the female gender can be attributed to dimorphic anatomical substrates, that are located in both the genital and the nervous systems together with different existing hormonal profiles.

Buss & Schmitt, 1993 defined sexual desire as the presence of sexual thoughts, fantasies as well as motivations to get engaged in sexual behavior as a response to relevant internal and external cues. It does not end there because, it is influenced furthermore by other factors like opportunity, attitudes, health, mood, and partner availability.
For the male gender, sexual arousal physiologically begins with an erection, this is a reflexogenic event that is driven by a sensorial signal and it is conveyed by the dorsal nerve of the penis. Erection depends on spinal and supraspinal vasoconstrictor control, it responds in the light of visual, imaginative, tactile, and olfactory inputs.
For the female gender, similar mechanisms are sought. Sexual excitement is phasic with the menstrual cycle, and hemodynamics in the clitoris after sexual stimulation is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. During the period of arousal, the Bartholin glands which are located on either side of the viganal opening normally produce mucus, and together with vaginal secretion, they make the area lubricated in order to make sexual intercourse much more comfortable. (Yucel et al., 2004).
The excitement phase often leads to an increase in breathing and heart rate as well as an increase in blood pressure, triggered by several nuclei, the brainstem, and the hypothalamic medial preoptic area. Vasocongestion of the skin is what leads to sexual flush affecting mostly the neck and the chest, and it usually disappears after orgasm, Orgasm is the conclusion of the plateau phase, characterized by a quick jerky muscle contraction of the lower pelvic muscles that surround the anus and primary sexual organs that is accompanied by a euphoric sensation accompanied with a further increase in heart rate. (Masters & Johnson, 1966)
Sex impacts human's everyday life and it lies broadly outside its archetypical purpose. Over time, there have been several proofs to confirm that regular sexual activity positively impacts both psychic and physical health. Each phase of the human sexual cycle involves neural structures that range from the cerebral cortex to the peripheral nerves, sexual behavior in humans should be a conceived phase for a pleasure-seeking pulse and it can be readily controlled in an appropriate context, way under the influence of cultural factors like ethics and morals.
Back to the issue of libido, which is also called sexual drive refers to the desire of a person to engage in sexual activities. A low libido is a decreased sexual desire while a high libido refers to an increased sexual desire. There are certain reasons that would increase sexual drive in individuals;
- Exercising.
- Drug-taking, those who take stimulants can have increased libido.
- Change in neurotransmitters, people who have Parkinson's disease may receive dopamine replacement therapy, which will lead to hypersexuality and sexual compulsions.
- Testosterone: Some research suggests there could be a link between higher testosterone levels in men as well as higher sex drives.
On the other hand, some of the reasons why a person could have a lower sex drive include;
Menopause: During menopause, sexual hormone decreases, causing a great decline in sex drive and arousal.
Mental health.
Culture and religion.
Obesity.
Chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes.
Pregnancy.
Medication.
Chemotherapy.
Relationship satisfaction: Some research shows that some females' libido may decrease depending on how satisfied she is with the relationship.
Sex drive can be improved, through;
The assistance of sex therapies, which can help increase sex drive, can also help achieve orgasm.
Increased sleep.
Increased exercise.
Testosterone therapy.
Is there a possibility of having a extra high libido?
