I was reading an article recently when I read a statement made by the author, according to him, PCOS was not a big deal as most people would assume it to be. There is no way I would have thought PCOS is no big deal because I would assume that it is following all the things I have previously read about it.

The decision is yours to make too or maybe we could even conclude together, at the end of this post, You will find out if it is a big deal or not. PCOS is polycystic ovary syndrome which is caused by an imbalance of androgens. The presence of PCOS means that the hormonal level of the woman is affected.
When a woman has PCOS, her ovaries are affected. The ovaries are the reproductive organ that produces estrogen and progesterone, this hormone regulates the menstrual cycle. The ovaries also produce produce amount of male hormones that are called androgens.
The process of ovulation is when the ovaries release an egg to be fertilized by the sperm of a man, this process happens every month.
We can generally describe PCOS in three ways;
As the presence of cysts in the ovaries.
Having irregular or skipped periods.
Having a high level of male hormones.
With PCOS, also comes hair growth on the body and face, and baldness is as well a factor that comes with PCOS.
So many people have PCOS and may not even know it, but it does come with signs and symptoms we should watch out for.
Thinning hair on the head is a common sign for women who have PCOS, and it may worsen by middle age, hair could also begin to grow in unwanted areas, doctors call it ‘’hirsutism’’. A situation where hair begins to grow on the breasts, stomach, thumb, chin, and toes.
PCOS could make an affected person have sleep disorder, which means difficulty sleeping, or not feeling well rested even after sleeping.
There may also be a notice of thick, dark, velvety patches of skin under the arms or breasts, groin area, or the back of the neck. This condition is also a medical one known as, ‘’acanthosis nigricans’’.
Headache is possible with PCOS, mood swings during the menstrual cycle, combined with frequent periods and heavy bleeding.
Irregular periods come with PCOS, and when the ✓period is irregular, it may be difficult to get pregnant. PCOS is one of the leading causes of infertility. A lot of women who suffer from PCOS strugwitheith weight gain as the condition may create lots of weight gain.

Medical experts have not been able to state for sure what the exact cause of PCOS is. However, some speculation is that the presence of a high level of male hormones will prevent the ovaries from producing hormones and making eggs.
On the other hand, it may be due to genetic issues, it is possible that many genes, not just one significantly contribute to the existence of PCOS.
Other environmental factors including diet and nutrition, environmental pollutants, and socioeconomic status are believed to be possible triggers to the existence of PCOS.
PCOS also comes with insulin resistance, which means their cells will not be able to properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that the pancreas produces to help the body use the sugar from energy foods.
PCOS as well as obesity increases the chances of, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, low good cholesterol, and low bad cholesterol. Remember that, PCOS is also a good trigger for obesity.
There is a classification of PCOS based on their variants, this classification is done based on the three key parameters of PCOS. We have anovulation, polycystic ovaries, and hyperandrogenism.
The first line of treatment for PCOS is starting with lifestyle modification, like changes in diet, weight loss, and exercising.
Treatment with medications is also available but most likely used for PCOS cases, that are classified as metabolically deranged. Irregular menstruation, anovulation, and hirsutism are shown in this category.
Women, who have PCOS stand a high chance of getting endometrial cancer. The treatment option used is dependent on whether the woman aims to get pregnant again and to prevent the risk of secondary medical conditions like diabetes and heart disease.
In conclusion, I don't know the reason why the writer of that article claimed PCOS was not a big deal when the emotional and physiological effect it has on women alone is a great deal. I don't understand his statement but maybe you do and can help us shed more light on it.
