Roman Swipes - A New Lifestyle Drug? [Reviews Summary]

in StemSocial2 years ago (edited)

Although recently stressing the differences @stemsocial and announcing my proximity @queercoin, I hashtag this post at stemsocial for potential networking purposes with chemists and other medical professions.

This blogpost's main topic is to open a discussion about Roman Swipes, which are currently being pushed by several influencers, suggesting that these wipes should become part of a man's standard product repertoire to delay ejaculation during sexual intercourse.

More than condoms Roman Swipes are promoted as medical products "treating" premature ejaculation. I wonder if there's a tendency to create a problem where there actually is none?!

For the first review I was ready to formulate a criticism that the product is mainly aimed at straight people, but with a look at the company's website it becomes noticeable that although on the landing page a straight couple is portrayed, further down other sexual orientations are included (see picture above). The review by Illumiate Labs - according to their LinkedIn page they are an online publisher based in Northampton, MA - is very cautious and first tries to check the efficacy of the product on the basis of medical studies and one clinical trial (from the company itself/Journal of Men's Health, 2019) with the result that with a concentration of 4% benzocaine - a mild topical anesthetic that numbs the nerve endings under the skin’s surface - in the wipes it can be assumed that the product is effective. The compilation of data and assumption is supported by experience reports on Amazon. Interestingly, FakeSpot is also mentioned in this context, an algorithm that's supposed to detect fraudulent Amazon reviews. It should be noted that when the reviewer analyzes the Men's Health clinical study, Intravaginal Ejaculatory Latency Time (IELT) is mentioned which reveals the presence of heteronormative concepts and terms in medicine. Fortunately, there are gender-focused medical departments that are better sensitized and specialized for those factors. The review concludes that there are probably no side effects, in any case the wipes would be preferable to the oral counterparts

like Bluechew and Viagra [which] can cause long-lasting side effects such as back pain and headache due to the systemic absorption of these drugs.

Illuminate Labs are presenting themselves as trustworthy information provider for supplements and therefore they are tending to be more in favor for Roman Swipes but they mention behavioral therapy as an effective alternative.

The second review which also is mentioned in the first review is one of the most popular ones, watched on youtube with over 50000 views. Science communication cannot be without videos, shorts and reels anymore and @threespeak's efforts with their native token should be applauded at this point, check out their hive funding proposal here. The youtuber and instagrammer of the second review kpboix99 seems to be an influencer from Korea with no specific training in natural sciences or medicine. However he tries to spark and open up a discussion if those wipes caused any numbness for his partner or side effects. His concluding remarks that

I gonna use this wipe a lot more in the future and creating more sense of satisfaction with my partner in the bed

answer my first question of this post, if you hadn't have a problem yet for cumming too quickly you probably will have now, bother yourself even more when you take influencers at face value. Be cautious how capitalism is creeping into our head at this point and ask yourself if this product is really a relationship deal-maker/breaker for you. Be careful with how products and promotions are brought about and with what you're feeding your brain!

The third review is by the news page Medical News Today starting its article with posing premature ejaculation as a problem in 1/3 of the cases. It gives a brand overview of getroman.com, apparently the company has a whole pallet of men products varying from stress, hair loss and erectile dysfunction (ED). Of course men have to function, also in bed, everywhere, anytime in our society. Please take this side note with a grain of salt. Contrary to the aforementioned reviews, this one is listing side effects, naming alternatives and has a FAQ section at the end.

The fourth review starts with one of those alternatives and contains product pictures. How practical sprays are compared to wipes this you must answer for yourself. Fin vs Fin is a wellness website and they're arguing very much in favor of Roman Swipes but overall quite balanced when comparing the alternatives.

As I have a lot of European readers here and Roman Swipes are not shipping to Europe I found out about the concept of Freight Forwarding, didn't know that companies offer physical addresses to satisfy needs of consumers overseas. Obviously for capitalism no barrier is too strong that couldn't be "managed around" 😂 Did you have any experiences so far with Roman Swipes or its alternatives in Europe? As the article Drug Sites Upend Doctor-Patient Relations: ‘It’s Restaurant-Menu Medicine’ rightfully criticizes lifestyle drugs, you should always consult a medical professional in these matters!

You may consider that I am someone living in cave, but I had no idea about what you were talking about. At least until I read the blog. Unfortunately, my expertise on the topic lies far from the help you are looking for, so that I have to pass. I hope some of our medical experts will pass by and provide some comments.

Cheers!

Nice meeting you at Hive Fest @sciencevienna! 😎
